FYI this Jayne Hat pattern is pretty easy because it's knit with two strands of yarn, so it goes pretty fast, and presumably you could just double-strand the stripes as you see fit:

Years ago one of my friends was a background character on "Hill Street Blues." They were shooting 'outdoor Chicago winter' scenes and instructed the background people to show up dressed appropriately...

Dave showed up in his cop uniform and his Dr. Who scarf... all 18 or so feet of it!
