Ugh.

No, it's not the roof. No, it's not the water main. No, it's not the bathroom pipes.

It's the feeder line to the icemaker on the refrigerator. Somewhere within the last few weeks, it began leaking. And since it was under a ton of CRAP - nobody saw.

So I have wet floors. In the kitchen, under the pergo. Those who have this type of floor know what I have this morning. Yeah. It looks like lasagna noodles. We'll see what time and drying out will do for it. This stuff is supposed to be good for twenty years. Just don't get it wet.

The kid's bedroom is soaked. I've called the carpet cleaner - he says he can be here tonight.

Last night, the smoke detector battery decided that was a great time to die. So I had PEEP PEEP PEEP all night.

Last night is FIRED. Today is on probation.

OMG. What an awful night! I hope the repairs go smoothly at least.

Had you sealed the pergo? If it stayed soaked for several days, it probably wouldn't have made a difference, but it might buy you bit more time next time... maybe?

*HUGS*

Oh, yuck, indeed - discovered a not-in-use piece of tubing when we moved the fridge in the new place, in an effort to see if it could be/was worth repairing (according to the repairman, no- it's the compressor and not worth fixing - AND, no charge for the service call, which took well over an hour - that outfit gets my business from now on) - told R the replacement will not have an icemaker, so he's going to get under the house and shut off the water at the valve.

I don't think I can - my floor actually 'floats' over the foundation, which is uneven. And I'm in a tectonically active place with enough creep to make sealing probably a Bad Idea. So that wee bit of give is necessary.

We'll see how it goes. A piece we soaked before resolved reasonably well - but this is a bit bigger than that was.

*mews*

I'm getting parts to replace the tubing and filter this POS is connected to. So very tired.

Hmmm. We lived in San Jose, which is pretty much Earthquake Central, but our foundation was relatively level. The sealant struck me as being flexible, just relatively water-tight. Then again, I could be wrong. I am constructionally challenged.

Regardless, here's hoping that it will reshape nicely as it dries. *crosses fingers*

My mother told me there'd be days like this. She did not tell me how many of them to expect.

Hope you don't have to refloor a room. That's expensive and with a kid on the way, you really don't need more expenses.

[identity profile] drlaurac.livejournal.com 2009-02-27 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
I am so sorry. That is not what you needed right now!

[identity profile] feyandstrange.livejournal.com 2009-02-27 11:40 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, I'm so sorry!

This is exactly why my mother refused to allow me to get a fridge with an icemaker. I thought she was being overly paranoid, but she reminded me that I have a fear of leaks and flooding at this point thanks to earlier trauma with ceiling leaks.

Fingers crossed for floor to dry and carpets to dry and all that. And for a better night of sleep sometime soon...
