The state could care less if I had a White Wedding with the Archbishop of Los Angeles presiding. Or the head rabbi. Or the leading (Insert Religious Leader of Choice Here).
For all the state cares, we could have paid our fee, stood before a JoP in the courthouse and done the deed. And don't think for a minute that Himself and I did not seriously contemplate that, we were so fed up with all of the foofarah.
But at the end of the day, all the state cares about is the licensing part of the deal. Everything else is just frosting on the wedding cake. As it should be.
This is not about who prefers what sort of symbolism (if any) in their wedding.
This is about who the state does or doesn't designate worthy of being granted a license.
