Well, hell -

It wasn't my Sims game getting too large.

I've got a Mini with a hard drive crash. Good grief.

I've got an Applecare contract, and recent (fairly recent) backups - and an appointment for the Mac Store tomorrow night.

But...dayim. That ain't supposed to happen. No warning, neither. Just won't boot.

Crapcakes.

That happened to me on my ibook once. When we took it in at the Apple Store they were able to do a manual reboot using my startup disc. The Genius Bar guy told us that basically one of the packets in the latest update did not install properly, and the hard disk registered the missing piece and just stalled out (hence the reinstallation to finally get it to boot).

There *was* an update to pick up, but I didn't do it - hmm. Boy, I hope that's all this is - it's a relatively new machine, yadda ya and all that.

Cross fingers!

that's pretty much what happened to my friend. exactly. we rebooted with a disc and it became happy.

I wish PC repairs were that easy. (I work on and own both types, but use the Mac for personal computing indeed. :)
