Going to check out a church this next weekend - http://www.seasidecommunitychurch.org/index.html Something tells me it'll be good for kid to have a church home, I could use the time to zone out if nothing else and I like the political climate. Let's see how long it is before they get the pitchforks and torches out. ;)

One of the NEJM studies also showed that many older Americans as well as recipients of the 1976 swine flu vaccine may already be protected against the new virus. In that study, researchers from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report that tests of serum taken from 1976 swine flu vaccine recipients showed a strong protective immune response against today's pandemic virus. Hoookay. It's entirely possible I might have been in that group - Mom was a nurse, remember - so. I'm almost certain we had the flu itself - again, Mom was a nurse and I recall the number of little old people who were hospitalized for it. I wonder how hard the titer is to get done. Worth the trouble, you ask me.

A 3D remake of The Beatles' 1968 film Yellow Submarine has been confirmed, Disney Studios has announced.

I'm old enough to have been one of the target audience for the original film, and YES - we did leave the theater singing. LOUDLY. This is my favorite movie of all time, hands down. I've also made it very clear I really would prefer to have new stories instead of the infernal 'remakes' that I keep getting handed. (And asked to pay money to see. No, thanks.)

I'm telling the powers that be in the only language I have to QUIT IT. By not spending a single cent towards their support. No book adaptations, no merchandising, and definitely NO ticket sales at the box office.

I'll be playing my DVD over here in the corner if you want to find me.

Yes, I knew I'd fall hard for Twitter - hence, my reluctance to take it up. *shakes fist at Hank* No chance of WoW anytime soon, guys. I know better.

Kirstie Alley is on Twitter, too. OMG, she's hysterical - in the most classic of the happy ass dance LJ ways. You think she's been lurking here, practicing?

Brent Spiner has to get the nod this week for writing something half radio play/half novella by Burma Shave signs...delightfully puckish, full of fourth walls and had me laughing out loud at times. He stays.

Scott Bakula tapped the mike and walked away. Bill Cosby writes as well as you might imagine - but so help me, if he's looking for 'fans' in Torrance anytime soon, I'm taking my uchiwa from the last Tofu Festival and writing his name on one before I hand it to him. Maybe the one from the ecchi computer game company from the last AX. He's in Cohasset, MA on the 8th.

Buzz Aldrin is coming to my Borders - MY Borders, just down the street! - Saturday. What do I bring him? (Can't be edible. Think about it. Would you eat something some total stranger put in front of you? Riiight.) Will I actually be there? Not so much. I'm kid wrangling so Jim can have a moment. The queues will be forming RIGHT at naptime, and that's inviolate. If he's not done after Xander wakes up, okay - we'll go down. But yeah - Buzz Aldrin. *wriggles* Wish I had a Jayne hat handy. Hrm. Maybe a copy of the first Patlabor movie on DVD. "Hill Street Blues with BEEEG robots."

If I get curious, I check. I am rarely dissapointed.

In other news, the kid's daycare has ownership of more My Little Pony ponies than I've ever seen, even in the toystore. Think sterlite bins - multiple multiple - FULL. They even have some of those ghetto poinies McDonald's was giving out last Christmas season.

It's also a center like I'd like to have if I ran a daycare center - a free-standing building with all the comforts of home, just not the bedrooms. It has a good-sized kitchen, lots of large rooms (including one that looks like it's where the kids nap, and that's about it), a dedicated nursery for babies (SO CUTE), a nifty playground and a grassy backyard area. It has its own mascots (a turtle named Ninja, a frog named Tarzan...and they utilize the butterfly from catepillar kits constantly!)

I'll throw it up - right now, I'm as healthy as I can remember being. Let the clock start now (even though I have an appointment Friday for a recheck. Watch me have my mother's asthma. Watch.)

Jim TiVo'ed Eureka this week.

I was properly snarky, saying I could predict the plot and resolution without watching. "Everything happens to Carter. Carter turns out to have better survival ability than cockroaches. Later, rinse, repeat. Everything happens to Carter."

I kind of like Carter. Not enough to jump off a cliff, but.

They brought a guest on to play a mechanical Carter. Seriously - height, build, coloring - complete body double. Sheriff Andy. Love it.

And anyone with a reasonable amount of ability could get through the episode without me wanting to strangle him. That's not what happened.

Jim and I looked at each other as the episode finished and we both said it - "Who IS that guy?!"

Cos' he was THAT GOOD. You're supposed to hate him, but you can't. You aren't supposed to really like the poor droid, maybe you can root for him in the end...but dayim, if I didn't fistpump when the dude refused to throw himself on the grenade with less than 7% chance of survival. He just turned the words so well, sparkled like a newly minted coin - Nana Visitor hits me like this. Everything sounds like it's the first time ever. Considering how really close I came to the plot before the show even began - new is Good. Very good.

Guy's name is Ty Olsson. Takes me a Google and waaaay too much time off the SyFy (*shudders* GHAD THAT'S STUPID) website, which does not list the credits - I have to hit the Television Without Pity forums to get the name.

*sniggers* And then I do what every little nerd does. I check Twitter and Facebook. Twitter - no. Facebook - yes. Of course I send a friend request - with the note I'd likely never have written and paid postage to send.

(UH, the House is on Twitter, BTW. Yes, I put a follow on it. What.)

...of Michael Jackson?

We were contemporaries, and we grew up less than sixty miles away from each other.

I bought both Jackson 5 and Osmonds records growing up.

I was thrilled beyond belief that Donny Osmond (another contemporary) had managed to stay alive, sane and working - every time that stupid 'Make a Man Out of You' comes up at karaoke, I smile inside (and wince outwardly).

Because look what happened to Michael.

Adults in their majority and all that.

I always wanted to shake him and demand 'Michael, what did you DO?'

Now, Cliff gets to. And I can almost pity him the experience.

Thou art mortal. Oh very very yes.

(I'd feel sorry, except I'm also very certain this is a blessing and release for him.)

One of my communities showed a posting this morning - another group is putting together a cookbook, you got it - browncoat flavored.

You know, you go, it's fun - and for a good cause. Same as always.

In case you missed the press release - I have missed Joss Whedon wholesale. Nope, never caught my attention...not once, not ever. I can speak enough buzz words to keep from getting killed, but he bores me senseless.

That doesn't mean I don't think his fans are awesome. Boy, howdy.

Remember that convention I did in Claremont, back when I was just old enough to sign contracts? Had 40 people, called Cop-Con, was a replacement for Zebra-Con that year, yadda ya?

Someone who attended the con has found me.

On LinkedIn.

Tells me I look just the same as I did then. All 22 years old of me, sopping wet. He always was a charmer....

Me and my brain are going to go sit and gibber in a corner now, k thnx bye.
