*puts on the list to do again*

The last time I spent any serious time inside an LA club was back when I was in college, and I went clubbing in bright kelly green overalls and an aqua baby-doll shirt. Sneakers. I think.

Dude, last time I was in a club, it WAS the eighties.

(Wonder if the Sasch is still even operating as a club...boy, that was fun too. Long time ago. Way long time ago, too.)

Both Tommy and Nat had mentioned The Pillows were going to be playing in town this year - and getting reminded of it yesterday, it was an "OH YEAH" moment. This band may be a lot of things...but to Jim, he hears what he liked the best about the Beatles...and is always game to hear more of their stuff. (Me? I think I put their stuff is what I put into my Sims2 game first. I likes me some Pillows, oh very yes.)

So I called Ticketmaster, made them do their job and we got tickets for last night's gig at the El Rey.

It did not disappoint.

Jim and I initially tried to stick downstairs, near the stage...but the crowd really didn't allow really big guy with small gal with huge bag into the press...which was a good thing, as things went. But it did press us into the corner next to the speakers with fingers in our ears. Tommy saved us by sending us upstairs to the lounge area behind the balcony rail...you can't see anything directly, but the couches are comfy and the area is buffered to a fair-thee-well. The opening act, The Noodles, were on when we got there - and I'll have to listen to some of their stuff on CD, because they did not leave much of a lasting impression from their set. Audience also was - static - which in this case, wasn't a good sign.

Fetched drinks for Jim and I - and settled in to wait for the Pillows to start their set.

When they did, time flew. Yes, most if not all of their set was FLCL stuff. Surprise. But then - they sounded as good live as the studio recordings...REALLY good. And the venue did some really good lighting work for them...and I'm repeating myself. Definitely worth the price of admission, courtesy fees, overpriced Cokes, parking...and being up until 1:30 this morning. (And yes, I came to work at 8:30. What.)

And I watched happily from my perch at all the moshing going on and glad I wasn't in the thick of it.

I think the next time I hit a club, I wanna dance. Not mosh. DANCE.

But Jim weathered it well - enjoyed the heck out of it, and I'm ready to give it another go next week with Japan Nite at the Knitting Factory...gotta go the tickets....Monday night. Then Wednesday night again (Paul Potts on Jim's birthday at the Wiltern). Wow. When will this wild wild life ever end? *laughs*
