Karma is no bitch -

Rei just caught a huge honking rat that both Spice and I had been trying to deal with since last night. Jim said it took her 30 seconds to nail the sucker and just calmly walked back to the laundry room with to share with the kittens.

She stays. Oh hell yes.

Question

Is Rei the kittens' mom? I was wondering what had happened to her.

The kids called her Stinky - and we decided that didn't need to stay, so we renamed her.

Oh, yes. We rescued a dog that killed a whole family of rats that were living in our shed and chewing it up, just destroying it and everything out there. They were too smart for traps and I didn't want to use poison because I am worried aobut birds, etc. He nailed all those rats and I've never been so convinced of karma in my life. He was sleeping from eating too much and surrounded by bits of rat when I got home. He got together with the big dog and tag teamed them. The big dog got the ones that ran away, he got the ones that hid in tiny places. My cats just watched and filed their nails and drank coffee. They only kill bugs.

Love your cat.

That cat is a keeper..

When you find a good mouser, or in this case rat catcher, it is a keeper.

one of our cats, Sammi, is a Target Acquisition Device. She's not the brightest bulb on the tree, but damn, she can catch anything! She was originally acquired by our first roommates when they had a mouse problem in their apartment, and their ferrets didn't know what to do with the things.

So, Sammi and her sister Midnight (no picture at current, she passed away from cancer about 5 years ago) were brought in to Save The Day! And they did. Boy, did they!

Now, the most Sammi has to deal with is the rogue dust bunny and creeping sunny-spot-on-floor. Oh yeah, and Mr. GrabbyPawsBoy.

Good for her! Now let's hope she's passing on her hunting skills to the kittens; they learn at Mom's knee, so to speak. If she's a good hunter, chances are that our girls will be, too, and they'll have plenty of opportunities to hunt here.

I was rather bemused late last week watching Jasmine and the boys with a little gray field mouse, out on the driveway. The boys were halfheartedly after it, and it kept running over to Jasmine and hiding against her; she made no move to get it. Jasmine keeps the boys at bay, so the mouse was safe. It finally ran under Charles' old car (the one that needs to be sold and go away).
