Advent, Day 12

Is there anyone out there who doesn't know who Stan Freberg was? *crickets*

Stan Freberg - 'Green Christmas'

This stuff is pre-sixties vintage, guys. It's long - and depressingly truer than ever. Worse, because (at least I can tell), we basically handed our popular culture over to the advertising biz and it now runs everything from our news services to our social programs...in addition to keeping their hands in our pockets in any way they can.

If it's good for bizness...yanno.

Yum?

How about the recipes of the week from Treehugger.com?

See you tomorrow!

Shouldn't that actually be labeled "Green Chri$tma$"? That's the way I remember it being on my Doctor Demento CDs....

I don't...

Are you kidding?

My dad brought me up on Stan Freberg!!
I have 3 CDs of his material (including Stan Freberg discovers the United States of America... a must own)

The man was a genius

(You should hear his "Flackman and Reagan" skit making fun of Ronald Reagan running for Gov. of California... and many of the jokes applied to Reagan as president!)

Can I share the Stan Freberg with two people? I think they'd enjoy it.

Of course the irony here is that Freberg was a brilliant advertising man. His Jeno's Pizza Rolls ads or the Sunsweet "Today the pits, tomorrow the wrinkles" prune campaign were sheer genius. So he knew about this stuff from the inside, and probably participated in a number of holiday ad campaigns.
