Because I must -

It's dead here. Seriously. Dead enough I'll probably pull out the laptop and try to teach myself perl some more today.

What do I hear from that bastion of testosterone, which is our client services area?

The Brady Bunch record. EARWORM CITY. quiddit. One of the two records I had the entire summer after the house burned down in 1974 - yeah, that record. Pristine, untouched and perfectly ripped to iTunes.

Yesterday, someone was playing a new electric guitar in a cube (without the amp on).

I'm going to get lunch now. I *may* post some Sims pictures, if I can get the application to cough them up.

No! Don't do it! You've got so much to live for!

I know it seems bleak now, but there's no need to go and do anything desperate like that...

Considering it's my first programming language...yeah, it's loads of fun to try and figure out.

Ugh.. I really mean it then. Please, please don't learn Perl as your first programming language. It's a horrible, horrible first programming language. It teaches you all the wrong ways to do things and you'll end up writing bad code for the rest of your life.

(Seriously, all of the programmers I know who learned Perl first, even if they went on to other languages later, no matter how brilliant they may be, are some of the worst programmers I've known.)

I strongly recommend starting with something else like Python (or Java, or Ruby, or even C if it comes to that). Later, if you feel you need to, come back to Perl, after you've got some foundation in more sane languages..
