OUT OUT OUT

I spent the day yesterday sleeping. After I spent the entire night awake in the ER at Torrance Memorial with Jim and his tweaked neck. No, I don't try to manage higher functions with NO sleep. Some sleep, yeah. No sleep, not a chance.

We got home about 4:00 AM, and I tucked in for about five hours, when I then got up and got prescriptions filled. And made an appointment for an ortho consult. This is for the birds. Jim's been dealing with neck-related pain (and I'm now beginning to wonder about all those "migraines") for weeks now. Someone who knows more than I do gets a go at this.

OTOH, he was written for enough stuff to put down an elephant, and he happily slept all day yesterday too. I'm going home for lunch and expect to find Sleeping Jim (accept no substitutes) on the couch.

In the meantime, if it needs to be done? It's my job. Name it.

I need to be cloned.

It's not helping much that Every Stinking Thing I have to do today is requiring me to repeat the request, redial the number when I'm dropped, redo the task because it wasn't done right by the person who did it previous to me, etc.

Cranky don't half describe it.

{{hugs}} I hope, for both your sakes, Jim's feeling better soon! And may you get the rest you need.

If they can't find any reasonable cause for the neck pain, demand an MRI. That's how my cervical stenosis was discovered. Neck and shoulder pain, not responding to treatment, not otherwise explainable. I got MRI'd and lo and behold, there was the cause.

It is better to know than to not know.

I was just ranting to my kids, when my cell phone went off for the umpteenth time and I chose not to answer it because the caller is someone who usually wants something, that I want to be the need-y instead of the need-or. Just for one day. Maybe on my birthday?

I'd go there, except I went home and found the boy sleeping in a position I know would have my neck in knots.

I woke him up, told him to lay off the Ativan and try to find a position close to neutral to put his head in.

Literally. He was bent at a 45 degree angle to his back. You sleep in that position and not get a sore neck. Honestly.

I've also asked him to get a C-Spine set of x-rays done at work before we go to the orthopod on Tuesday. He can do it, he has the coverage at Kaiser to get it done and he can have a buddy do the work. The MRI, not so easily done - but if it's ordered by the orthopod, it'll definitely be easier to get done through Kaiser and just hand carry the results over.

Working right now is going to be an interesting experience for him.

Unless it's urgent, and you know you're expecting the call, there's nothing wrong with letting voicemail give you a moment to breathe and collect yourself.

If they don't leave a message, you've got your answer.
