Because the corker for this week of talking about weight and health issues?

Saturday morning, Jim wakes up at 5:00 with back pain - and not the 'oops, I shouldn't have picked up that 75 lbs of dogfood' pain.

Nope. Into the ER, and doctor starts saying the 'D' word. As in - disc injury.

He had an aunt die of an overdose of pain medication, after decades of being either in a wheelchair or in her bed, after surgery to resolve a disc injury SHE got on the job - just a couple of years ago. Nope, in her case, surgery didn't resolve it - but she was also close to 500 pounds and pretty content with the lifestyle, all reports...which also included a lot of 'sharing' of the meds, if catch my drift.

Her job? She'd been a RN. Back in the day.

...

So - Jim is off work, on Vicodin (which isn't holding him - he isn't pain-free, just more comfortable) and got to spend yesterday watching movies on the portable DVD player. In bed.

And I'm left with the entire list of things we both had for this weekend - and the foreseeable future.

So say I'm not amused is an understatement. This is not what I would want for him - and the upcoming events - you know, international travel and one of the biggest events in another little boy's life?

Worried is also not going to cover it.

I spent the day yesterday sleeping. After I spent the entire night awake in the ER at Torrance Memorial with Jim and his tweaked neck. No, I don't try to manage higher functions with NO sleep. Some sleep, yeah. No sleep, not a chance.

We got home about 4:00 AM, and I tucked in for about five hours, when I then got up and got prescriptions filled. And made an appointment for an ortho consult. This is for the birds. Jim's been dealing with neck-related pain (and I'm now beginning to wonder about all those "migraines") for weeks now. Someone who knows more than I do gets a go at this.

OTOH, he was written for enough stuff to put down an elephant, and he happily slept all day yesterday too. I'm going home for lunch and expect to find Sleeping Jim (accept no substitutes) on the couch.

In the meantime, if it needs to be done? It's my job. Name it.

I need to be cloned.

*starts ticking off tasks on fingers and runs out of fingers*

It's not helping much that Every Stinking Thing I have to do today is requiring me to repeat the request, redial the number when I'm dropped, redo the task because it wasn't done right by the person who did it previous to me, etc.

Cranky don't half describe it.
