It's all about the eating.

Food giveaways aren't uncommon, especially in recession-racked America. But influenced by what is shown on TV and in the movies, the outside world doesn't expect to find them in the seemingly luxuriant Laguna Beach, with its hillside mansions and Pacific Ocean views. (So broke and who would know it California....)

Reporting from Houston - Michele Perchonok sat contemplating a shrink-wrapped brick of freeze-dried mac and cheese just outside the test kitchen at NASA's Johnson Space Center.

The dish has been served countless times on the space shuttle and International Space Station. When astronauts are so far from home, this is the comfort food they crave.

But this particular entree won't be on the menu when astronauts blast off for Mars, scheduled for some time about 2030. The see-through package isn't impervious to moisture and oxygen, so the pasta could spoil before it can be eaten. Simple alternatives, like foil packages, are out of the question: They are too heavy.

"We'd like to have that solved by 2015 or 2016," said Perchonok, NASA's manager of advanced food technology. I love the look-ahead of this. Someone call Alton Brown.

I had an ATHF birthday party. Why Meatwad? Well, he's a big pile of meat. I love meat. I wanted to make the costume as smelly and gross as possible, because Meatwad is smelly and gross. Sure, I could have chosen a fabric that looked like meat, or done a mascot costume. However, I thought it'd be hilarious (and totally accurate!) to do it out of real meat. I didn't think it was feasible, but the more I thought about it, it became the ONLY OPTION.

Sadly, it had to be discarded after the party. (Big surprise, right?)

The FL has not let me down! *sniggers*

Chocolate Caligraphy Set, as in the Japanese variety...and man. Each stick is a brush, each inkpot is an aromatic flavour, and the palate is a blank canvas. It's a bit late for Cat's book tour, but she (and her books) are the first thing that comes to mind looking at this.

But, if reason needs to rear it's - ugly wise and prudent - head:

It's time for the Xtreme Eating Awards (not so much).

"If you wouldn't eat an entire 8-piece bucket of KFC Original Recipe plus 5 biscuits, you shouldn’t order this."

One of my communities showed a posting this morning - another group is putting together a cookbook, you got it - browncoat flavored.

You know, you go, it's fun - and for a good cause. Same as always.

In case you missed the press release - I have missed Joss Whedon wholesale. Nope, never caught my attention...not once, not ever. I can speak enough buzz words to keep from getting killed, but he bores me senseless.

That doesn't mean I don't think his fans are awesome. Boy, howdy.
