And the best part?

Checking the entry yesterday, I left out something.

Twelve years later, we found out my step-father had set the fire.

Ostensibly for the insurance benefits. Which didn't exist.

..

I am amazed I'm still as trusting as a dog. Until I get screwed, of course. Then, you're history.

I am much the same...

Next year, we have to get in the same place. Seriously.

I'm for that... :)

Forgive me for asking, but... did the SOB bother to check the insurance policy first? I shouldn't be surprised if he didn't. That's the thing with devious people: they always screw themselves and others on the details.

As for the whole "I am amazed I'm still as trusting as a dog", albeit I'm not as accomplished a student of human nature as many others whose works I've read or heard about, my take on it is that humans in a primeval sense want to trust other people. Those whose first instinct is to mistrust, I think, are those who have been deeply damaged again and again, to the point where they don't trust their own emotions and instincts anymore. It's probably a pretty sad place to be in, and I'm glad I can't speak of it from experience.

I don't know, I think some people are just less trusting than others, not necessarily from being damaged any more than anyone else, just as part of the way they are. I don't think it's any sadder than being too trusting, it just is. Extremes in either direction (too trusting or too suspicious) are probably unhealthy.

Got it in one - nope. He screwed himself (and the rest of us - mercilessly) for nothing.

Less than nothing. We had less after the stunt than what we started out with - which was damn close to nothing to begin with.

You need to publish a book of memoirs. Really. I am shaking after reading the whole thing.

Oh, and sent you an evite last night. Hope you and Jim can make it.

Guess who came down with my bug last night.

YUP. If we manage anything this weekend, I'll be surprised - and I'm bummed, to be honest. Want to catch the kimono show with Caitlin and I on Sunday?

[identity profile] redqueenofevil.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope the bug flees soon. :( Tea and rest!

As for the gathering, no worries, the house party isn't til a week after tomorrow.

I'm interested in the show. Only thing is that I'm working until 1 on Sunday. What time do you think you're going?

There was a recently published study that found that people who's sense of trust was fucked over early on became overly trusting (ie suckers) as adults. So if you think you are teaching your kid about "the real world", you are really teaching them to be taken over and over.

Boy, I'd love to see that one - part of all the work to get certified for foster parent included study after study after study about how hard it was to get kids over attachment issues when they'd gotten fucked over early...they never could trust properly enough to do it successfully again.

Then again, in some cases? I'd call it the "what does bad mean to you?" factor - and if you're used to being lied to? You expect it - and never check, after a while.

Me? Bullshit detector works overtime. It surprises me at times.
