So far, that's what shaking out of the FL this morning -
odiedragon, do you know
sunfell? She's got the goods for you today - frankly, for anyone if you really want to know.
Mean little girls on MySpace...have mean little shits for parents. WHO KNEW. I can tell you what I plan to teach my children. It doesn't matter if you think adults know what they're doing...if you thinks something smells, YOU TELL. Period. And how to tell the forks from the spoons.
I've been told about the people who live in this part of the country...and I believe it. They also think Ann Coulter is funny.
I'd wait until the teenage girl is of age...and then let fly. And frankly, anything that keeps a kid at the computer? Has to be followed up to reality - or discarded. A teenage child is...a child. And a guy interested in my teenage daughter - my just newly-minuted teenage daughter, no less? Boy, you'd better be real or else.
..
There are a buttload of people on my FL with my birthday. I am getting spammed right, left and center. (My birthday and beg button are on my profile. Go look.)
Shoulda known with all those Scorpios.
HAY. I have room for 126 icons. I've used 52 of them. Make me more. Happy birthday to me.
The rest of the day has been butts. Total butts.

hmm, let's throw a little cold water on the fire
There's the odd one-sided slant, and all the questions that weren't asked.
Yes, it really is slanted, if you consider that it pretty thoroughly sides with the parents of the girl who died. A lawyer for the other family would have fun with it.
It reads to me like a story designed to make readers go along with internet censorship, honestly. It does not truly address the concerns of other parents trying to protect their children, it doesn't suggest how they could do a better job in their own busy lives. It's just uselessly alarmist.
However, it is not slant to give the names of those involved. Why don't they name the person in this report, since all the names were public record in the police report?
The person who set up the fake story entangled a temp employee in this behavior, too. Why would any employee collaborate on something like this without getting the total heebie-jeebies about working for such a creepy person? Why didn't they report this to their own employer? It is, after all, fraud on the TOS on the MySpace website.
I'm sorry to say that, given how the fake-account mother was so unafraid of involving other people, I very much doubt she feels any remorse whatever. Some folks are just wired that way. And yes, if true as accused, then she may very well do something worse in future. Naming her and her family in the paper isn't going to stop whatever forces drove her to craziness of this kind. Let's call it what it is, crazy.
The movements of the dead girl's own parents on that day are odd and disconnected too. It's possible that the actions of people around a lot of suicides look odd just like this, but the press sure asked a lot more questions about Jon Benet Ramsey's circumstances.

The information is passing so quickly, so fast in some cases...some education is definitely indicated on how to manage it. And the sooner, the better. We're asking children to alert on information that could potentially kill - that's something we don't let most adults do.
Does that come under "censorship?"
In this case, rational adults in positions of authority - played what they perceived to be a harmless prank. Someone DIED.
You can get put in jail for killing someone driving a car drunk - even if it is unintentional, you kill someone...there are penalties.
This isn't about pr0n or someone's right to access.
Me, I'd have subpoenaed MySpace for the records. I'd have asked more questions. It's entirely possible all these steps were taken, and since there wasn't enough evidence to point directly AT the people in question...this is what you're left with.
A group of people where NO ONE could be identified. Except the dead.
At the very least, all the players know what happened. In all honesty, I believe that anyone who lays hands upon their own lives, is ultimately responsible for that act.
But to have someone play with a sick child's head that way - and let's not kid ourselves, that kid was so at risk, I would not have allowed internet access at all, let alone MySpace - knowingly, willingly and PROUD of it.
There are no words.
