And some more stuff.

Everyone is allergic to Tide. So far. At some level. No, really - they are. I don't buy it, won't buy it for anyone else, don't recommend it and hiss at it in the market. Someone says 'I gotta itch' and I ask what kind of Tide they use. People are amazed at my telepathic skillzor. (Not so much.)

All used to be much the same. Anyone seen that on the shelf lately?

I've decided going to Disneyland ALONE because it's free on my birthday is not a good enough reason to go. Would be a whole lot like going to a banquet and starving to death because you can't afford to buy the plate to eat on. No, I don't like the idea enough to physically become ill thinking about it. One should not be thinking about going to Disneyland and get ill from it.

You know, I have a house full of things I haven't had time to do (read, play, sew, repeat), but if I'm home on Saturday, I'm on duty. And will likely be kid wrangling or yelling at Jim. I'm tired of the yelling. So - if I want some peaceful time (remember, I was asking for a retreat originally), I have to leave home. Short of spending the day at Starbucks on my laptop - or riding the MTA (a thought) - anything else involves spending money in some fashion. (Just go shopping! I can hear my sister now. WITH WHAT DEAR ELIZA WITH WHAT.)

Send the boys out to play? WITH WHAT DEAR ELI - okay, you learned the tune.

Stay tuned. Running away from home also does not sound like a healthy place to work from when deciding what to do with one's birthday, either.

Called my brother to discuss Thanksgiving plans (and some Christmas chatter) and wouldn't ya know - "Hey, if you're coming out here Wednesday night, you could just show up early at do all the cooking for Mom!" Both he and Sis are going to Hawaii for Thanksgiving. You remember last year. That's what they decided to do this year. They split town. Thanks, guys.

Kill me now. Oh wait, then you'd lose your [insert slave term here, take your pick] that picks up the slack when you don't want to. I wanted to make reservations and simply take the Danish mafia OUT for Thanksgiving. My mother is looking for some place to get half a turkey to fix for the significantly reduced number that's arriving to eat out there. Kill me now.

The hotel stay is also about a hundred a night. I could try to do a Super 8, but why. I could just sleep in the car and do as well. Kid does NOT go down to sleep as long as we are awake in the same room. Also does not co-sleep well. I'd like to keep my sanity, if I have a choice thanks. So I'm going to pay for a place with two bedrooms and has a full kitchen as a bonus. Will have tea. So help me.

40th anniversary of Sesame Street. 20th anniversary of the wall coming down in eastern Europe. 10th anniversary of Spongebob. Why is everything now measured in multiple decades this week. *grumps* Nothing good happen within the last five years? Don't answer that.

The only illegal immigrants I knew growing up in Southern California were French Canadians. And they were deported.

Dear God, let me remain consistent in the face of four-year old obstinancy. Yup, we're there. Also aquired - selective hearing. Also also acquired - collar grab of DEATH.

I think the addition of such a restrictive amendment to the health care bill (and you know which one, amirite?) will kill it dead in the Senate. Still waiting for health care reform, says I.

Yet another EXCELLENT reason never to step in a Wal-Mart for any reason, anywhere. >_<

PITBULLS IN HELICOPTERS. PITBULLS IN HELICOPTERS.

Poison Pill.

I KNEW IT.

[identity profile] caitlin.livejournal.com 2009-11-09 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay.

I think I've stumped you here:

I've got an itch.

I don't use Tide.

*wry*

Somewhat related...

I use Tide (for the light-coloured/white laundry; dark clothing gets Woolite variant for dark clothes) and I do not have an itch.

Yet.

Tide make me itchy, too. So does Gain.

Disneyland

If you want to go to D-Land on Saturday, I'll go, and I'll pack sammiches and make brownies and bring flavor packets for bottled water! We can have lunch in New Orleans Square!

At the moment, I'm the only one in the family with a pass that doesn't have Saturdays as a black-out date.

To be perfectly honest, I'd be terrible company - but I appreciate the offer muchly! Another time?

Absotootly. And the offer of sammiches/goldfish crackers/brownies (our apparently traditional Disneyland lunch, devoured in New Orleans Square) still stands :)

My parents used to use All.

It didn't make me itch, but the smell of the (unscented!) detergent made my asthma act up something awful.

[identity profile] johno.livejournal.com 2009-11-09 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I stopped using Tide years and years ago due to the itch factor. Even their "free" version does it to me.

However, All Free works great. Cleans the clothes (one drawback to many organic and "safe for the environment" alternatives.) and doesn't leave a itch behind.

I've also moved on to FREE versions of softener, color safe bleach and even the dryer sheets.

Target is good for usually having the entire array in stock.

[identity profile] redqueenofevil.livejournal.com 2009-11-09 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
If my pass allowed me to go on Saturdays, I'd join you for your b-day celebration at Disneyland.

Regarding Tide, funny you should mention the allergy. I don't understand how people can use that stuff. I've known I've been allergic to Tide for years- and the smell it leaves on your clothes is horrid. There's so many better alternatives out there. I thought I was the only one with an allergy though.

Oh, and I avoid Malwart like the plague.

No, this is why to not go to WalMart

One way to fix turkey for fewer people: turkey breast in a slow cooker. It's yummy.

[identity profile] kyburg.livejournal.com 2009-11-10 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm going to suggest that - thanks for reminding me!

[identity profile] feyandstrange.livejournal.com 2009-11-09 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Order a pre-fixed meal from some local restaurant chain? Or tell the guests to bring potluck? WTF family. Sorry yours are being a pain. (And I suppose turkey day at home with your "new" son is not a good enough reason to bail on your mother in a tough situation, but ought to be used to guilt your sibs, at least if they had any ability to feel it.)

It's sad when *lawyers* who get abused by big corporations refuse to sue because they know it's like attacking Godzilla with a Nerf gun.

I seem to be allergic to all scented detergents - by which I mean full-on hives, not just itchy. I don't think we used Tide much. I do okay with either the "free" from Costco or Arm and Hammer Free for myself. (Costco's is probably more economic, but I can't lift it.)

And I have only been in a Wal-Mart twice in the last twenty-five years, both times because we were at least a little desperate and there was nothing else in the area we could get to. (Car broke down in Tracy. Slept in car overnight, got new battery for car the next day at Walmart, managed to get home on that. Needed an alternator, but didn't have the cash.) I feel sorry for folks who are stuck in places where Wal-Mart is practically the town factory.

I suggested the pre-fixed - as with most food in Hemet of a restaurant nature, it was horrid. As in, inedible - all of it.

*sigh*

I go back to Ivory Snow for folks like you - you ever used that?

[identity profile] feyandstrange.livejournal.com 2009-11-10 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I *think* I've used Ivory, but my memory, she is unreliable. I can use most other Ivory unscented products (bath soap things) safely, so it stands to reason. I just stick to Arm and Hammer out of habit.

And - oh right, Hemet food. Silly idea retracted with a wince.

[identity profile] christophine.livejournal.com 2009-11-09 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
My weirdness reconfirmed. We use Tide exclusively. It's the only one that we have yet found that doesn't give me hives.

[identity profile] kyburg.livejournal.com 2009-11-10 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
YOU LIVE. Where the *$#@! have you been?!

Why yes, yes I missed you. Whole lots.

[identity profile] christophine.livejournal.com 2009-11-10 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I moved over to a Wordpress blog toward the end of 2007 and set up a syndicated feed from there, so anyone who wanted to could still keep up via their friends page. You must have missed the post announcing that at the time, which is understandable considering how much you've got going on in real life and how many folks are on your friends list. The feed is here, though it's been acting kinda strange lately and hasn't always been posting new entries.

I still pop in over here daily to catch up on what's up with the folks on LJ. So I've been reading, even if I seemed to have disappeared. :)

Tea!

I *think* I most recently was using Tide, but the clear version without fragrance or dyes, for my front load washer.

Tweet it around.

If the above offer for someone to go to Disney doesn't work out, I'd still say get out of the house. I did that. Even if it's sitting in a park in the sunshine - and don't you have a big old free beach in L.A.? Go sit at the beach and look at the ocean. Gain some equilibrium. I think it sounds like you need it.

Hell, I'd take the Starbucks with the laptop in a pinch, but then I make up stories to entertain myself, it may not work for all.

Do SOMETHING for yourself. You won't get the pretzel unsnarled without it, hon. I'd go with you if I could. :(

[identity profile] kyburg.livejournal.com 2009-11-10 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Current plan has me at Starbucks with laptop until the world wakes up about 10:00 and then taking trains in some direction TBD.

Dinner, I've tossed to the fates. I'm sick of thinking everything up.

[identity profile] ms-hecubus.livejournal.com 2009-11-10 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, I currently see both Tide and All on the shelf above my dryer. Doesn't give any of us the itch. But Bath & Body Works shower gels are starting to. With me it's the perfumes more than anything and it sucks. I like being smelly!
ext_20420: (Default)

[identity profile] kyburg.livejournal.com 2009-11-10 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I prefer LUSH and The Body Shop - Bath & Body Works stores? Can hardly get inside them without hacking up a lung - and in comparison to LUSH, that's saying something.

[identity profile] ms-hecubus.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Bath & Body Works sprays their scents into the air, especially near the door. It's to get the smells out into the mall and attract customers. Believe it or not it really works.

[identity profile] eemfibble.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I seem to get itchy with pretty much everything except Dreft (or Target brand) and Woolite.
