The New York Exchange for Woman's Work, founded 125 years ago so that Civil War widows could earn a "proper" living by selling their hand-knitted scarves and mittens, will close at 149 East 60th Street in Manhattan on Friday. The model for dozens of similar enterprises across the country, the exchange survived the Great Depression, two world wars, and the 1970's economic crisis by selling everything from liquor and lingerie to crab cakes and sweaters for dogs.

I absolutely love stores like this one. I hate hearing stories like this one.

Civil War widows. I'm going to go hide under the bed.

Finally.... those poor Civil War widows can get some rest. ^^; Damn, 125 years.... they must of had some great health insurance.
