Hey, [livejournal.com profile] ginmar - someone needs one of those radical feminist shirts. And I don't think you two have met - go over to [livejournal.com profile] divalea's journal and take a gander.

This is person who did the cover art for the Lulu Awards for Comic-Con last year.

Here - a sample:

It's a bit simple to say it's sexism, and to lay the blame on one image (which I didn't). Miller's para encapsulates a "HUrr, hurr hurrr a GURL" attitude that has been present in comics (U.S. comics) that I noticed the first time I walked into a speciality shop in 1982.
From that time to now, I've gone from offers of rooms, dates, dinner or breakfast har-de-har and gropings to being told I won't get a series because I was pregnant, I didn't need to be sent a check on time because I was breastfeeding so I didn't have to worry about needing the money to feed the baby, to being told (by a marketing manager) perhaps my husband could write my book in a way he could understand, to being laughed at for having an objection to having my books printed by slave labor, to seeing...you get the idea.

And people wonder why I stopped playing in the entertainment industry sandbox. Not that I didn't want to work hard or anything...nah. I wasn't pretty enough and got tired of hearing it on a daily basis. Or - hearing how I would gladly cheat on my husband at a moment's notice. (NOTE: you want me gone, do this. Promise.)

I can drive a desk and make myself happy. So I did.

The timer for the porch lights has died - or lost it's tiny little mind. I have an identical one for the Christmas lights (yes, I do, blame my electrician. I asked for an outdoor outlet, he put that and a timer on it in for me. Programmable from the inside. Yo, he is mighty. And a retired nth degree black belt. Don't mess). It's fine.

This one has an error message that made me call the company this morning. I also have no porch lights right now - thingie is dead dead dead.

Uh, the new DST parameters are screwing with the product and they're sending out a replacement - no charge. No, there is no recovery. And I can't use the energy saving bulbs with it.

I'm calling Cedric this morning and advising him - likely, he'll have to come out and install it - but one, I don't recall this unit having a radio connection to set the clock or determine DST and two, there's likely some resistance thingie Cedric will have to explain to me, but how the eff would it know I wasn't using plain incandescent bulbs in the fixtures and why would it matter?

*hurrr*

A new unit is fine with me. One I have don't work - but the reasons just make my head hurt. Okay?
