I can think of ways I'd prefer to die. Really. If you have the experience with hospitals that I do, you can come up with a bunch of them.

Dying by kidney or liver failure? You stop eating, fall asleep and drift off. You're still DEAD, mind. But if that isn't reversible? Not a bad way to finish it off.

Jim ended up working two hours and change over his normal quitting time last night, with a tough case in surgery. Yeah, I called to make sure he hadn't left yet. Did I suspect a car accident on the way home, as possible explanation?

Please. He drives the 91 home. We take that freeway from where it begins to where it ends to visit my mother. Every time we finish the drive home, we high-five each other and exclaim "we live another day!"

And you've heard about the rain.

Getting murdered? You're more likely to kill yourself with a weapon than be killed by someone else. And for the record, dying by gun is not my idea of a good way to go. No, thanks.

The filkers lost a good one over the weekend to a fire. [livejournal.com profile] filkergem and from all reports, his friends loved and treasured him dearly. The house is gone, and he has a wife and daughter surviving this - [livejournal.com profile] kyttn and [livejournal.com profile] lovensong87.

There are no words. This kind of thing happens, my rational mind knows this.

But this - this is awful. Words beyond that point are useless.

..

Loss is a part of life - life is a series of meetings and partings, and nothing we do can keep that from happening.

That said - I am so sorry for these folks. I've survived three house fires - nevermind the three burglaries. You can replace things...but the people are gone from you until you join them, wherever that is at the end.

This is awful. Awful.
