As some of you may know, we very sadly had to say goodbye to little Alfie on Friday after a short and thankfully painless battle with kidney failure. Words cannot describe the grief we are experiencing.
Alfie and Oscar were best friends and lovers. They did absolutely everything together. When we came back from the vet on Friday evening without Alfie, Oscar knew something was wrong. He hid under the bed all night and refused to come out to eat. We were getting really worried.
Pets tend to have a favourite ‘spot’ or place in the house; for Alfie, it was the arm of the sofa. He’d sit there each evening and look out of the window at the sunset, just basking in the warmth. A year or so ago, someone sent two Alfie and Oscar beanie babies to our PO Box. Yesterday, I propped up the ‘Alfie’ toy right where he used to sit. And that’s when this happened.
We’d like to thank whoever sent us those beanie babies – because Oscar and the ‘Alfie’ toy are now inseparable. He sleeps next to it at night and plays with it all day. He’s like his old self again, playing and running about as usual. Whoever sent us those beanie babies – thank you. Because of you, Oscar will always have Alfie by his side.
