Jim was telling me the other day how he had been recommended Big O as an anime -

"Cross Batman with James Bond, add one hoooge kick-ass robot 10 storeys tall."

Why this comes up is due to finding my copy of the first Big O DVD - it had been packed away, unopened since last year. Yes, I had the balance of the series on DVD out, opened and greatly enjoyed - but I'd yet the see the first four episodes.

I can see why the Batman reference was drawn, but I think anyone equating it with James Bond would do so only if they had never seen Man From UNCLE - which in MHO, is a much better fit.

sithdragon - imagine Napoleon Solo with the title of Negotiator. And if Illya Kuryakin isn't goth enough for you, I don't know what is.

I'd also add a healthy dollop of Starsky & Hutch - particularly Hutch wearing black and looking tasty.

Now...add some of the BEST art and music you've heard in ten years, ditto storyline and character development...and you have one of the properties I use to introduce people to anime.

It's currently in its second season, now airing on Adult Swim on Sundays - the season opener could have tipped its hat to The Prisoner.

It's good. Very good. In case you hadn't noticed.

Big O is actually one of my favorite anime series out there. Don't know if it's roger... or R. Dorothy... or the big kick-ass robot, Big O.

And sadly, I'm missing Season 2 of the series... I had forgotten about it and then figured it was too late to jump into it so I'll wait for it to repeat at some point in time. Or else it will come out on DVD soon enough as well.

I am a huge fan of the Big O. The reason the show looks like Batman: the Animates Series is because it's the same animation team (as you probably already knew)

I have only seen Season 1, but Dorothy has become one of my favorite anime characters...

because unlike a lot of other anime robot characters, she shows no emotion... on her face.

However, we can see she has emotions... she just can't express them in tone of voice or in facial expression... (mostly)

Her actions... and WHAT she says, on the other hand, speak volumes!!

My AMV project

I'm impatiently waiting on the hubby to get the editing software working on his computer, so I can make the AMV that I've had percolating in my head since the first DVD came out.

It's going to use Journey's "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" (If he ever hurts you / True love won't desert you...)

It's so frustrating to see the scenes to use and hear the music, all in my head, and have no (current) method of slapping them together, coherently... Bah.
