kyburgWe came into some post-holiday samoleons, so we've gotten three new anime DVDs -
The 5th Chobits.
The 5th Sugar.
And the first of the second season Saiyuki.
Yes, I sat down and watched them all this weekend.
Chobits continues to impress me with its basic graphic design (it really does look different with its ba-ba-ba-da-bada-da monotone bumpers, limited animation style and onscreen sound effects) - nevermind the eye candy, of course. It's Clamp, it's cutesy-poo - but the adaptation work is very good, the Japanese voice work is of equally high caliber. Solid, but not inspired.
The Saiyuki takes the "we're doing this on COMPUTERS!" method of animation and reminds you of it every step of the way, much like Chicago never released a song that didn't have a horn section in it. Voice direction on this one particularly nice - keep in mind I don't watch the dubs. Rarely watch the dubs. Brett didn't work on this one, did he? Don't have to watch the dubs. And I want the sheet music for the score. All of it, libretto too.
Finish up with Sugar, AKA Little Snow Fairy Sugar. Also known as anime crack. You get roped in by your friends. First hit's free. It's cute, it's over the top - and you gotta have the next one. You. Just. Have. To. It's so sad to be so pathetic. Maybe it's the cello. Yeah, that's it.
However, you can imagine where you brain goes when you watch all three of these in a 24 hour period. Not very nice places, okay?
And Neverwinter Nights is still kicking my ass.

Saiyuki- A show for fangirls.
Sugar- Cute. That reminds me that I need to borrow these from a friend of mine. Ive only seen 2 volumes on DVD. And it is so cyte that you must watch it. Although I wouldnt buy it.
