Tell me about it. I lived with my mother between 36 and 39 because jobs in my field paid so low.

Damn straight I live with my mom... after having known her for 25 years, the friction is MUCH lower between her and I and what it'd be between me and another roomie.

I often feel a bit guilty that I'm not doing my fair share around the house of late.. I'm supposed to be paying half the mortgage, but haven't a job that allows it... but I think I can safely say that if I won the lotto tomorrow, I'd be perfectly and wonderfully happy to have my mom living either in the same house or at least next door. Seeing her only a couple of times a year or so would SUCK.

I'd just be able to pay her back for all she's helped me out with.. well, a little of what she's done for me :)

I really think American society needs to be slapped with a trout a bit... why the hell should it be an 'embarrassment' to be living where you feel most at home? True, there's leeches.. but for some of us, it's a matter of family even more than it is a matter of funds.

I'm really big on the Kiki's Deliver Service take on life right now. At 18, I will strongly encourage my children to spend a year on their own, supporting themselves. They can do it however they like, but they need to be out of our house.

It's a great time to go hosteling in Europe, or trying to make it big in New York or LA, or whatever their dreams are, but trying it with their own hands.

There's so much to learn out there, and college can wait one year, especially if they're ahead of the curve by homeschooling.
