Yeah, yeah, I heard.

Now it goes to the courts. Where it belongs.

Let the circus begin.

And meanwhile, elsewhere in the world, people are blowing each other up instead of talking and cooperating and fuck, DOING ANYTHING EXCEPT TRYING TO STOP HATING EACH OTHER.

Yeah, right. "Christian" love. Thanks for setting such a good example for those who could use one.

You dumb fucks are giving my deity a bad name. Stop it. That's all I ask. I ain't going to argue with you or tell you not to think, breathe or behave any differently than you are called to.

Just...don't kill anyone, okay? That kind of defeats the purpose.

Oh, lord, it never even occurs to me to look at CNN anymore; not living here...

Still missing it, though. Microwave popcorn?

Ah. Yes, I should have spotted it; made CBC as well. The coverage there was a bit far down the chain, admittedly, and other stuff took up the radio news a few hours ago. (hockey. woo-tahh.)

Sorry; for some reason I had my eye out for articles which were making explicit religious statements, rather than implicit ones, and got confused from there. (Doesn't help that, just prior to reading your post, I was stuck on some of the Madrid coverage.)

I assume you saw the first issue of the Onion, post 9-11, with the headline "Angry God Clarifies 'Don't Kill' Rule."

Right after I heard the news from Spain, I went back to a quote I've been thinking about from Dr. Ben Reitman, one of Emma Goldman's lovers who had a falling out with the anarchists. Reitman was one of the foremost leaders in the fight against syphilis in Chicago, among many other causes. At the farewell banquet for Goldman and Alexander Berkman before they were deported, Reitman said the following:
"You revolutionists, you radicals, you anarchists, go on with your petty talk and your petty ideas. But you'll never achieve the millennium in that manner. You may accomplish good and you may accomplish harm. I'm not a revolutionist, not an anarchist. I'm a reformer. I want to tell you that I expect to accomplish more on a platform of human brotherhood than you can with a platform of revolution. You can't lead men without being bigger, and better, and finer yourself. There is only one motto which you can follow, and in following that motto, you will lose your present ideas and ideals and gain newer, bigger, and better ones. That motto -- 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto us.'"

Even allowing for the complicated feelings of an ex-lover saying farewell (or "fuck you") forever, I find a lot of truth in this.

Amen

One of the things I do love about this country is that we *aren't* blowing each other up over old disagreements and are instead arguing and redefining how people think which is more dangerous to the old ideas and status quo than any bombing could be.
