Thursday - Ghibli Musuem
Mar. 25th, 2004 01:55 pmWelcome back to hunt and peck-
Japan continuing to be a combination of the mythic unknown and the comfortable familiar; going from environments straight out of anime [everything just as I'd expected, at times too much so for comfort] to a place like the Ghibli Musuem, where all of a sudden you're in warm friendly spaces again.
It's a pity this appears to be such a well-kept secret outside Japan if you don't know your Miyazaki. You'll hear folks say 'it's nice' - that's like saying Godzilla's kinda tall and grouchy. The museum was hosting some animation work from Russia today - superb stuff and I couldn't help thinkking how unlikely it was that anyone inthe US would get to see any of it
Incredible stuff.
The musuem itself is three stories tall and filled, nook and cranny with every Ghibli character from Totoro to Chihiro.
Journalling at a McDonald's in Kichikoji while waiting to meet up with Hitoshi Doi for dinner.
Interface not easy or fast - will have to add more later.
