Title: Last Thing On The List
Rating: G
Fandom: El Hazard OVA 1 & 2
Synopsis: Masamichi Fujisawa has the last thing he ever wanted.
The baby was sweet, he had to give him that. After returning from the unwelcome journey to Creteria - and of course, returning a married man with a child on the way - Masamichi Fujisawa hadn't been entirely certain the whole domestic plan was going to work.
Certainly not at the beginning, what with the wedding (never mind the very idea of marriage, him! Marriage!) and everything Miz had thrown at him. She just looked up at him with those wide violet eyes that sparkled with mischief, opened her mouth to speak and amazing things just happened.
That's not the way it was supposed to work.
You got married, you took a job you hated, you never went home - and by everything he'd ever known - the children came by magic, because a married couple NEVER spent a night together, let alone loved one another enough to produce an end product. Everyone knew that. It was a given.
He'd escaped that fate, thank you very much. It had included a lot of cheap sake and beer - a LOT - and not a few instances of shame, belittlement by his peers (let alone his students) and pity on the part of his fellow faculty. But - he'd escaped marriage and the little deaths he had been certain would be his lot if he had capitulated to such a thing.
But the baby was sweet. And life with Miz Mishtal had been anything but a bore. His job? Retainer to the court of Rune Venus and a more obliging, attentive and grateful patron could not be had. He and his little family wanted for nothing - and if he wished to lay out on the grass and watch his son play with the flowers, nobody said a word to him about it.
This couldn't be the way it worked. One did not LIKE marriage. One did not ENJOY children, let alone babies - they cried, they smelled - well. You know.
Grinning to himself, he counted himself a lucky man. Somehow, he had escaped that half-life so many of his classmates had accepted as their lot. His wife treated him like a perpetual surprise - well, perhaps he was to her, being from another world as he was - and surprises delighted her.
The baby cried, and smelled...and adored him. And he spent as much time with him as his mother did.
It was the last thing he would have asked for, before he had been dragged to El Hazard. But now that he had it, nothing else sounded as appealing.
No, not even the demonslayer sake. Not even that.
Life was good. And he was certain about that.
