It's Google's web-based email service - which is only available by invitation.

Pro:

Spam is automatically filtered out - and there is no advertising, but rather Google puts content-related links to the side if you're interested in following up. (Just like they put on their websearch results page.)

They also thread email replies into conversations, allow you to self-label emails, and archives into a searchable database - and gave 1 GB of storage space (that's why so many of the other web-based services have upped their capacities lately).
