I have a well-developed coping mechanism, built over years and years of Bad Things happening without ever really stopping for a deep breath.
Numb. And when I say to myself “I’m going ignore how bad this is,” - I actually manage it. The downside is I’m pretty flat, emotionally.
When I can catch my breath, I can only hope I’ll be able to shed some tears. Because, damnation - we are still losing people to heart attacks like we did in the seventies, best shots possible. Carrie Fisher was only one of them. We lost Robert Palmer at 54.
I lost both uncles and my grandfather on Mom’s side at 59, same cause. (Mom lived as long as she did, methinks due to vigilance which I have acquired. She was essentially 90.)
Get your CPR card. Start noticing where the AED machines are in public places. It works - but only if you act.
This year. Honestly, I can’t believe it’s only been one. It feels like it’s been this awful for years and years.
