I got a call at my desk yesterday at 2:00 PM. Mom's going back into surgery - seems there was this little procedure they could not get done while Mom was awake, so she was going back in under a general to get it done.

General. As in knock you the fuck out.

Okay. That was one of the major concerns originally, so after tossing it with my sister, I said I would go.

I have two hours to get to Loma Linda from Manhattan Beach. Stop laughing.

I also have to do this with a car switch in Bellflower. No way can I get to Loma Linda on freeways in the truck.

So I also pull Jim out of work, and we both go on carpool lanes.

We get there after 5:00 PM. No, they hadn't taken Mom up yet.

We wait.

We find out a trauma case has bumped Mom out of line - she'll be going sometime about 11:00 PM.

I'm sent home by my mother at 8:00 PM.

I call when I get home at 10:30 PM - she's going in now.

I call this morning when I get up - it was an owieowieowie night but she's okay. There are details, but overall, everything went fine.

And she may be discharged before the weekend. HaHA!!

This is my weekend to get ready for the holidays.

*shakes head* I'm just too far away, geographically. Three hours. I don't know what everyone thinks I can do at this point, but past my one week of vacation, it's not going to be much.

But I did it anyway, neh?

You are doing as much as you can and more than most would expect you to do. You'll look back years down the line with absolutely no regrets and that is a helluvalot.
