If you think me getting all ranty is bad - you ought to try me when I'm too angry to say anything.

The fallout from this event is still coming down.

We have a teeny little dilute calico coming around for a nibble on the dry food I keep on the front porch to discourage bird hunting - and it has become obvious she's really preggers.

And then the kids came over last night to tell us all about "their" kitty - same little calico. She has large litters, it turns out.

It turns out that skinny old dog, and the puppy (much in the same condition) that I see running around shared a garage with her and the kittens last time around.

The dogs ate most of the kittens. The kids (think 7 or 8 years old) were told it happened because the dogs were "hungry AND thirsty!" - and I believe them.

Hello, abuse line. Both for the animals and the children. I also believe they are running a rather large landscaping fleet of trucks out of that house - and I don't think we're zoned for that. So, hello county office?

I'm asking Jim to fetch the street address this afternoon. This shit's gotta stop.

Is the calico tame enough you can trap her and get her to a vet to be fixed?

At least that way, there won't be more unwanted kittens.

And yeah, go get SPCA all over their hillbilly asses.

Does the SPCA have a local chapter?

I'm wondering if the SPCA exists around here..

Here...

The number is 1-800-540-SPCA...this might help.

Hey. Hillbillies take care of their animals (I know, I am one). Hell, even rednecks do. (After all, how you gonna hunt if you're out a dog?) This is just trash. And, yeah, animal abuse leads to people abuse, so both SPCA and DPS (or whatever they call it in CA) on their heads.

Code Enforcement...

Contact Torrance Code Enforcement for theparking and trucks. Most cities have ordinances for parking of commercial vehicles in residential areas.

Well, with salsa. I guess.

She's a little dear - but it's taken some time and lots of patience to get close to her.

Yeah, she's going to get fostered - as soon as I can find a place.

Good idea - except I'm in the county strip - so it's LA unincorporated for me!

Actually, they're pretty close by - and have a lot of good resources.

Everyone else around here loves their pets a whole lot - I don't expect a lot of resistance.

Hello, abuse line, yes indeed. If you need some more backup, let me know, because I may know of some resources who can either help or refer you to resources you may not be aware of.

I'm thinking of Pasado's Safe Haven, for instance, and they may well know somebody in your area. Holler if you need me.

look on the bright side. by neglecting both the dogs and the cat, the dog are making sure that the cat doesn't contribute to neighborhood overpopulation.

um, yeah.

good luck. i hope they find nicer homes for the poor animals (and kids, hell...)

*long-distance huggles to the animals*

What is a "dilute calico," anyway? (Right now I am owned solely by solid-color cats....)

Date: 2005-04-13 11:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] elfwench.livejournal.com
I think it means pale versions of the colors, like peach, gray and white instead of oranga, black, and white. One of the kittens we fostered last summer was like that. Sadly, she didn't make it. We called her Baby Girl. I still have her three surviving brothers, who are all orange tabbies, two long -medium haired (Omega and Mr. Big) and one short haired (Timmy).

A little wild and woolly, but we have a good neighborhood group and I just dropped an email off to it - hopefully, we have someone over at the Carson Sherriff's station I can take this whole mess to and have a good chat about it.

Address is turning out to be more difficult to determine than I thought - the street changes names at the curve - bah!

elfwench is right, it's calico, or actually tortoiseshell, coloring--black, orange, and yellow, but diluted to cream, peach, and grey. We had a lovely dilute calico who was with us for 16 years.
