Not good. No, this doesn't qualify for Good. Nice, yeah. Pretty - definitely.

And oh, this so dates me it ain't funny.

I found a ripper that worked, about midnight last night. Since I had to be back up, alert and functioning at 5:00 AM this morning, I went to sleep instead of posting to LJ. I'm funny that way. But let me tell you a little story.

Another else out there remember The Association? Really sweet six-part male harmony with nothing harder than a strongly played electric piano - makeout music for baby boomers when they were barely old enough to know what the bleep to do. Those guys. (It should be mentioned that it's no surprise this age group went for the pot and barbituates like they did - even their makeout music puts you to sleep afterward....)

Probably the first group I can remember liking...even before the Beatles. To this day, I can't tell you the record label they recorded under - it was red with a black heraldry shield and helmet. Couldn't read back then. That's how far back this goes. My older brother, the ten years older that he was, loved them (and it should be mentioned he was the first one to bring the Barry Manilow home. Blame him.) - *sigh*

I loved that "cherry shoes" song.

And the new Barry album, Greatest Hits of the Sixties - has an Association mash-up on it. It's the best track on the album, right next to the one track he lifted from the Sinatra album he did years ago - and the rest is worse than elevator music.

So, warning. This is nice - not Good. You want Good, you go buy the Barry Manilow albums from Concord Records.

Barry Manilow - Cherish Windy (Duet with The Association)

Listening to it, Jim was wondering if they had actually gotten the guys back together to do the work. There are seven members mentioned on the liner notes - if that's what happened, you had a guy 30 years after beginning the career with guys 40 years past the beginning of their careers...and they sound fantastic. There are some phrasing changes and some key changes...and it's loverly. I just want to give it a big hug and a cookie.

That said, I'm still waiting for Harmony...and another album from Concord. You hear that, BUNKY?! *kicks*

Enjoy.

Thanks for the link. There was a young lady named Wendy in my life about the time that song was popular.

That's funny. My mom got that CD recently, and we were listening to it while driving.

Now, I like Barry Manilow, but the thought of him covering songs from the sixties was a little trippy.

But, yeah, the cover of that one song was pretty good.
