We're getting money back this year. Enough to get to Switzerland, roughly.

Last year, we were just even steven, and I worked those deductions like a mofo, yo yo yo.

This year?

Jim found out that he had one more deduction to add to the medical. That alone pushed us over that far.

What they're taking out of his paycheck for health insurance. That we don't use.

I'll let you do the math. Just how MUCH money over a year? Enough to change your return from $20 to over $2000.

And we're not using it. (And it's only coverage for him, to boot.)

Head, meet desk. It'll be next open enrollment period before we can even consider doing anything about it. That's, oh, December. I think.

Silver lining? We'll get money back again next year for the same reason.

*winces* Oh, we are old...and stupid. Both of us.

If you come here, we must get together! And if you need a place to crash in Basel, and we (or I) am here, we have a place for you.

I hope you can make it!

We're getting about half that back, but not via itemizing deductions. That didn't get us enough. If we still had a big mortgage interest payment, we would, but we don't (only a small one).

Charles' employer is switching plans, so we have an opportunity to get me off the COBRA plan from his former employer, which was a better plan than the one his current company offered until now. Now they're going with an equivalent plan to the one I'm on, but it will cost a bit less (until we add on dental and vision, of course). He's also pushing his company for an FSA. We need this to pay for scrips with pre-tax dollars.

Had his company remained on the former plan with the former insurer, the top tier for scrips would have gone up to $75 a scrip. And I would have had to go on this plan eventually, since COBRA's not forever, with my nine or ten brand-name top tier scrips. We simply wouldn't be able to afford my medicine. I'm so glad that they're changing. The new plan is the same price per scrip as the one I'm on now, with the top tier at $40 (it's $10/$20/$40). It also offers a mail order pharmacy offering three months' worth of scrips for the price of two. We'll take it, assuming my scrips stay stable. They often aren't for some things (blood pressure), but for some - like my current diabetes medication regimen, which is working beautifully - I think three for the price of two will be welcome.

I've pushed for more samples and gotten them for a scrip that I may or may not be kept on, depending on what my creatinine is next week. So there's one $40 med that we haven't had to pay for, thank goodness.

Look at the last two weeks of September, that's when it would be. A day or two? It would be WONDERFUL if I could make that happen....

It's a lot of work, needing medical care in this country. When you could least spare the clock cycles, what do you have to do? Add more and more work just to keep up.

You never worked so hard in your life, just to have part of what everyone else around you takes for granted.

I would be THRILLED. I've been to Fribourg once - how well connected are you to the railway? Does the Postauto connect from the railway to Schmitten well?

My old co-worker is from Bern, and recommends we fly in and out of there, due to cost.

It sounds like a very good idea - just a warning, if the connections aren't good, we may have to find accommodations overnight....

Schmitten is between Bern and Fribourg and has a railway station. From Bern it is the S1 (to FRIBOURG Not to Laupen) or the S11. Just call us when you are in Bern. +41264960407 so that we can give you a lift from the Station in Schmitten...

Sorry not to get back to you sooner -

It would be the last two weeks of September - but only one of them. I'm trying to finalize which of the two it will be, but the decision hasn't been made yet.
