Odd bits

I have that happy afterglow that only happens after much pottage of bare-root plants. It consists largely of being wet, cold and filthy. And terribly pleased with myself.

I have orchids. And macadamia nut trees (little ones), a stephanotis and a new plumeria (a RED one!). I even have orchid plants that should produce vanilla beans for me someday. I am totally smug.

Now, if the additional time without water didn't kill them all, I should be in business. Wish all of us luck. I am dizzy and feel a little disjointed from stretching into positions I normally don't put myself through, but a week in a tatami mat room did wonders for my flexibility.

A cup of tea, and then I'll go clean the [livejournal.com profile] v_white_board.

I also need to get the balance of the luggage unpacked.

Went to 99 Ranch Market today and indulged myself in a guilty pleasure - no, not the green tea ice cream, everyone loves that - no, I bought a pound of chicken gizzards, snipped the tough connective tissue out of the middle of each one with a kitchen shears, stir-fried them with some teriyaki sauce and ate them with a serving of instant ramen, hold the seasoning packet. A friend of mine clued me into this once - get the Top Ramen, and throw the seasoning packet OUT. Cook the noodles, then mix them into something edible, like some stir-fried veggies.

Me, I like gizzards. Nobody else does, so more for me! However, I am certain it was enough food for two meals, so I'm not hungry yet for dinner. Go me.

I also finished up the humongous Beatles Anthology LD set I got a couple of years ago in the "DVD is here to stay - LD's are leaving the building" sell-off at Ken Cranes. It is an absolute treasure - 8 discs and each disc is two hours long. Stuff you never even heard about. However, the last disc outlines the breakup and it was one of the saddest things I ever saw. It did have the most complete recording of the last concert they did on the roof of the Apple building (I think) - lovely stuff. I think this was originally a BBC series - if it comes out on DVD, snag it.

Got the strangest call this afternoon from a friend of mine - he seems to think he may get the nod to do security for an anime convention out here in June and wanted -mm- well, that's the strange part. Maybe he wanted to hear that I would do the con with him, and bring Jim? That was thirty seconds. Sure, he's got us. Jim is likely the more valuable player, being 6'4", 230 and terrific all-around good guy. He's also fantastic with small children, EMT-trained, former fireman, and has no trouble extricating small females from the full-court fanboy press if necessary. (Did it last year at Anime-Expo, no charge.)

And then there's his wife, who will fucking kill anything that lays a hand on him in anger.

Maybe I'll tap Cedric and see if he'd like to join in - ham club president, and I think some nth-beyond 3rd degree black belt in Karate. Mark would also be a good choice, but I don't know if he'll be free. Mark's already with the office of emergency services in California.

Women? Char. Oh, most definitely. They won't know what hit them. Honest.

Weird day. Left a message for my Sis regarding those dumb ass shoes I was supposed to get - and didn't. We'll see how that plays out.

Almond Carmel Corn. Yumm.
