Go refresh that map I just posted.

Some of the fires are now marked "contained" with itty bitty GREEN fires.

The surreal...is much amusing.

shit should i be worried???

My daughter is moving out to La,leaving tommorrow...driving.She has an apartment in the silver lake/los feliz area, north of la.She will get there sat if all goes well. I hope the air clears by then (which cnn news says it will) and you get some rain.Do you think she will have troubles getting into the area with all the havoc going on...dam I am just a worried sick mom.Of all times to be driving into a city where thousands are being evacuated.Just our luck.Plus my daughter Courtney has major breathing issues...

I thought I was seeing things at first. I love that the map updates like that!

Now, I really don't know CA geography at all, which will be quite evident from the question I'm about to ask. How far away are the fires from San Fran? I'm curious if they may cause re-routing problems for my flight in next week (here's hoping they're out before then!).

Make sure she has all her meds, ALL OF THEM, and prescriptions for the things she will need to refill. Anything she might need within 90 days.

I know where's she's going. Just north of me, and south of [livejournal.com profile] catsonmars. Tell her the local hospital is City of Angels Medical Center at 1711 W Temple St # 6300, Los Angeles, CA 90026. One of the first things I suggest she do upon arrival is to establish who her doctor is going to be (call the medical staff office at the hospital for a referral). Then go see said worthy and keep her meds up to date.

The air is bad for everyone - so bad, in some cases, that people have been sent home from work as a precaution in some communities. It's bad indoors. (I'm going to be setting an ionizer/air cleaner inside my house tonight.)

Getting in probably won't be an issue - check my map and ask her if she's coming into town on the 10 Freeway - most people do. You can see on the map itself where the freeways are - Silverlake is off the 101, which breaks off from the 10 in Downtown Los Angeles.

Don't mess with the breathing issues. Make sure whatever health care coverage she can have, is valid and up to date.

Past that, welcome to the neighborhood - jump in and swim for dear life.

San Francisco is 500 miles away to the north of us - and while they have their share of brush fires (some that make a few of these look like pikers), they are currently not having the cycle we are.

I'm not aware of any re-routing going on due to conditions, outside of the normal ones the small planes have to contend with (wind, visibility). I'd be prepared (as anyone MUST these days) when flying that delays are common, and can be caused by equipment not being where it should as well as any other type of issue.
