I can't help but think that this is something that most of those graduates will have to learn on their own. I was given a similar speech at the end of my college career the first time. And guess what? I thought that'll not be me. We all did, probably. Then you get out there and you find yourself thinking "OMG! It is true. You fail more than succeed at life, and you have to learn to keep moving."

Myself at 22? Would have never bought it. At 31? I totally believe it, because I've lived it.

As for the next part of it: how do you know something isn't working? You just know. Sometimes the markers have to hit you on the head just the same, because you might hope and persist longer than you should, but then you'll realize you have known all along, and you learn to let go of your own large ego, and actually start seeing yourself a bit more realistically. Again, that comes with time and age.

That said, that speech is worth treasuring.
