3. The Snow Empress, by Laura Joh Rowland.

Picked this one up as part of a stack of manga in San Francisco, just at the beginning of the AOD weekend - at a discount. I can see why.

It appears to be part of a series of samurai cinema...mysteries. That's right - Sherlock Holmes meets the warring states period of Japan.

It is spare, contrived...and hokey. Also, I finished the book without throwing it across the room.

Up on the shelf, onto the next one -
