I just edited my earlier post on the no-strike to link to an excellent analysis of where SUP is really going with all this.

I am much bemused. I can honestly say that there are MORE posts today than usual. And of very fine quality indeed, I dare say!

Ok Im totally confused. Is there another "Strikethough" level wank-fiasco going on that I somehow missed?

No offense, but BREAKTHROUGH HOWIE.

Take a quick spin backwards through my journal the last few days, you'll find links to the hoopla.

Honest. People though NOT posting to LJ for AN ENTIRE day was going to send some kind of message. You tell me.

I often go days, even weeks, without posting. What does that tell them?

*imitates Ben Stein's voice* I'm defying the popular movement. Yay.

Seriously though, I think the whole strike is just silly, I just don't care enough to react to it one way or the other and my lack of posting and commenting (other than this) is just because I've been quiet, not because I'm trying to adhere to their fundamentally flawed idea of a strike.

Ah, well, I've hardly been on LJ much if at all the past two weeks. Been eaten by life and family in town for the Easter holiday. When I have read my LJ I've at best skimmed my F-List.

Tho, I guess I should be grateful that LJ Drama barely registers as a blip on my radar anymore. After the SUP aquisition and perma child filters, nothing bothers me anymore cause I know getting riled up does no good. It's SUP's property, they can do what they want. A global democracy LJ is not.

Considering it's the same yahoos who 'threatened' to leave LJ for good way back during "Strikethrough", I'm not surprised. The only way to make a real statement is to stop paying for their journals, back up their content, and move elsewhere but they won't because it would require honest real effort on their part.

They'd rather whine, martyr and throw their e-fists into the air as they pretend they are Making A Difference (tm) by posting crappy banners and chanting cutesy mottos.

Meh. I don't whine, I don't see myself as a martyr, and I'm not 'pretending ' to make a difference. But I will/did participate in the boycott for reasons that you and others seem not at all interested in.

Oh, yeah...I also donated £20 to LJBook to backup my account. It may be totally boring and trivial to others, but it does contain a lot of things significant in my life.

So mock all you like, but I intend to stay and be a thorn in the side of both the emo asshats who think it's cool to piss on everything, as well as the mature voices of wisdom who don't see any point in upsetting the status quo.

Oh, I'm fully aware of the reasons now that I've gone back and researched what tipped off the strike and the reasons behind it. I stand behind my prior statements 100%.

If you think for a moment that the strike was a thorn in anyone's side, you're gravely mistaken. It didn't prove anything nor did it make even a tiny blip on the radar for LJ or internet business practices in general. Even if every single LJ user didn't post for 24 hours, the most that would have happened is the servers would be lightning fast due to lack of traffic. The next day things were back to normal. They lost no money, they lost no content, they lost _nothing_. Please tell me what major statement was made?

I read the post-strike post [livejournal.com profile] beckyzoozle made, and she's misguided. LJ is not a public street corner. It's a privately owned apartment system. Brad owned it first and chose not to charge the tenants rent and let them control the grounds. The thing is, Brad sold it, and the new owners of the apartments now want to charge rent (via adspace) to pay for maitenence, turn a profit on their investment, and be more in charge of how their property is run. LJ is a for-profit private service, not a free public service.

Unless the users of LJ band together, raise funds, and buy LJ from SUP. _Then_ they can do whatever they like with it.

SUP owns the servers, no argument there. They do not own the content. Nor the clients.

And for the 5 millionth time this is not about free accounts!

Even SUP/LJ knows that, that's why they apologized about

1) breaking their given word by the secretive way they went about eliminating new Basic accounts.
2) their stupidity in the way they tried to sanitize 'interest lists', which they have restored BTW.
3) ignoring the input from their advisory group.

You can go ahead and think that the people who protested and criticized, in whatever manner, had no effect if you want to. Reality sayeth different.
