Getting off the phone with Mom yesterday, I had to step back and whoa a second.

I knew her memory was getting a bit spotty - and some of the Big Things I remember as a kid? Nope. Gone with the Schwinn.

I wouldn't mind so much, except the first response is 'you're making it up.'

UH.

I'll admit I can make up a lot of things - and do a pretty bang up job of it. But a really money-poor, so broke there was no heat or lights or phone a number of times childhood?

Who the heck would make that up. *buhs*

I've got a call into Sis - just to check my work. I mean - I'll bite. I can be wrong - but consistently, into detail? Kinda raised a red flag.

In my experience, when the memory starts to go, the primary reaction is not gentle confusion, but "You're making that up." Anger and pique. "Why don't you ever call?" when she has simply forgotten three conversations.

If your mom has not been evaluated, now would be a good time. There are things they can do. :(

This is something I'm getting used to. The doctors know it, and there is very little that can be done for my 79 y.o. Mom. In my case, the stories can be quite entertaining, but it is sad so much is forgotten or totally twisted from the truth.

especially when I reminded her that I paid for most of my education, she wonders why I never finished college.
