It was always a civil issue - and the consequences were enough to frighten anyone out of a same-sex cuddle when I was a teenager. Long before AIDS, long before anything else.

yeah, that sounds about par for the course. it suggests that 1: they know what everyone approves of 2: you will be ostricised totally if you try to disagree with them, and 3: it's being done for your own good, as there's something Wrong with it *dundun dunnnnnn~nnnnn*. and it keeps itself vauge enough that you're never sure how to argue against it.
