So Arlen Specter had enough, did he? Again? HAY ARLEN, NEXT TIME GO GREEN.
We'll take you. And then maybe we'll have someone running the joint who can actually get paperwork filed on time. And pay bills. And...stuffs. (In the meantime, we solitary Greens get to perfect our facepalms. Oh yes, we do.)
Any of my knitty friends ever buy yarn made by a company in North Carolina called Tuscarora? I'd never heard of them, and I'm pretty sure they won't be happy about how I did.
In a completely done deal, the EEOC is suing them for 'subjecting an employee to sexual harassment and then retaliating against her for complaining about it.'
A Latina factory worker in North Carolina was brutally assaulted by the plant manager after she had earlier reported his sexual harassment to officials of the yarn company that employed her, according to a federal court complaint filed by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
The complaint, part of a motion filed by the SPLC today, alleges that Tuscarora Yarns Inc. of Oakboro, N.C., failed to protect the woman, who speaks very little English, after she told superiors about unwelcome sexual advances, comments, innuendo and physical contact by the manager in 2007.
On Dec. 29, 2007, she left the factory in an ambulance following an assault by the manager.
UH, check the dates. The suit was filed on 3/30/09. That's how long it takes, guys. (Tip of the hat to
reannon - I would never known anything about it.) After leaving your job in an ambulance. Keerist.
Does this mean I shouldn't be taking Rush so seriously?

motorbike yesterday - this issue NEEDS shirts like nobody's business. And you know what? I don't plan to store-sell. I'm sure the Twitter underground will do nicely. Who doesn't have a Twitter account? Me. Who has Twitter accounts? All y'all. Will let you know the particulars as soon as we get them together. (Oh and BTW? Locals - you want to make some noise, please? A little louder - nobody can HEAR YOU.)

I hates Hollywood today.
Going to Target today. For humidifiers, mayonnaise and brains.

Date: 2009-04-29 05:21 pm (UTC)2 - in regards to "racebending.com"... umm... what if you're not Korean, Belgian, or your run of the mill WASP? Because, uh... hi... I think I'm offended.
3 - Why do you keep leaving crocheters off of your 'friends'? Sure, T and I knit, but crochet is our CoC... =P Although I had never heard of the yarn company in question, that will definitely be one place I will never go for yarn.

Date: 2009-04-30 03:49 am (UTC)I had seen your posts complaining about this controversy, not knowing the show and never catching your posts at a convenient time for research I had no idea really what the problem was.
Now I do... And yeah. I just don't get why they'd do that. It implies racism on their part, and implies they think we are racist and won't watch it with Asian actors. I find both angles there rather offensive. Sure, maybe they aren't intentionally doing it for those reasons, but if so, they clearly didn't think this through very thoroughly. Would they sign off on live action Jetsons with all black or asian actors?
And rewriting the entire tribes? If they were really sure a white actor was better for a given part than anyone of the original ethnicity, there HAD to be a less blatantly racist way to justify it within the story.
Sometimes changing race from the original source is fine- The new BSG did that with several characters. But in that case there were things they were saying about race and how when you get down to basics, it really doesn't matter. They could not have said those things as clearly if they stuck with the original race of all the characters.
Unless I'm missing something though, and I don't think i am, with Avatar they aren't trying to say anything other than "we think we'll make more money this way".
You know they've screwed up when someone who hasn't seen more than 10 seconds of the show flipping through channels is getting offended at it.
