Half a loaf, and far from done.

Prop 8 stands, but so do all the marriages performed prior.

Yup, another ballot measure and another nasty fight. Oh, and expensive too. Hooray.

Dumb as dead cats.

I just posted the Chinese Exclusion Act in full text.

I bolded what amounts to similar passages to the way the court ruled.

The only HUGE difference between Prop 8 and the Exclusion Act? The Chinese Exclusion Act was FEDERAL Law. Prop 8 is not.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME.

What the fuck.

I'm officially through paying attention to californian politics. 2003 recall was bad, the fight over the giant hunk of jesus metal in San Diego was worse, and this... well... Yeah.

i would have assumed punk kids would swastika it up, and then the police would fine them for sticking the cross there in the first place when the complained about vandalism.

heck, i'd have done that myself.

i still find it odd that people are fighting so hard against a simple right they have no claim over and have seen harms nothing.

but i guess some people just need to seek the wrong kind of attention.

Marriage is usually stuck with Religion and many people don't like to expand that beyond what the religion says is God's law. When you have inject Gay Marriage into it, it is also an attack on God since we all know God hates gays (j/k). This may also open the door for other types of marriages like paligamy, bestiality, and robot sex.

In a nutshell, it's an attack on a way of life, and we all know people are resistant to change.

I too disagree with Gay Marriage, I think it should have stayed at Civil Unions... it didn't seem anyone had issue with that and it's basically the same thing. Just my opinion.

Sweet Wahuu icon, by the way.

i actually agree with gay marriage specificaly because of its frequent connections with religion.

see, while the biggest, most influental belief system in the US might oppose it, there's a lot of smaller ones that don't seem to care from what i've read. there's just nothing in them about it to say "nope, you can't get two guys together", so it's pretty much up to their priests (or whatever they have) to decide if they want to do that.

except with this the state has to step in and say "you can't do that because religion is against it."

The California Supreme Court did the right decision, with a 6-1 vote, so they were almost all in agreement on this. If they had ruled against it, then the whole method of ballot initiatives would be thrown into question. This was a prudent decision.

Of course, there will be another ballot measure now to repel it. The question Californians should ask themselves though is should there be a system in place that allows the state constitution to be changed so easily; a lot of states don't have this type method in there constitution. Just a thought.
