Doctors, dentists, pharmacists and others in the health-care industry have been stealing huge sums from California's $25-billion Medi-Cal program despite increased state and federal efforts to combat fraud.

Not the poor saps who have to wait hours, fill out 25 pages of personal data and have the government search up their asses with a microscope...monthly...to receive a pittance in Medi-Cal benefit.

No, just keep jumping the hoops. Meanwhile, after being short-paid for everything, someone finds a way to get more than their share out of the system.

Again, we're back to survival - "I got mine - screw you!"

Lovely attitude.

Maybe looking a tad to much at the dark side of reality...But, I am not sure as a social service system we have yet to leave survival of the fittest because God knows how much hoops people have to jump through in order to get the help they need/deserve and some the people who are most in need of this help, find they can't even manuver through the system.

For your own self-preservation...if you've never had to ask for public assistance, investigate what you'd have to do to get it before you need it.

Honest.

It's an eye-opener.

I hear ya...I am a social worker and help assist people who are trying to get SSI and SSDI...It is insane what they have to do and prove in order to get services & to top that all off, what they have to prove and do on an annual basis just to maintain what they already have!

Interesting,

The cycle is so huge that started this that the true culprits the insurance companies will never be traced down. You figure every person who carries insurance from work puts in about 4K a year including the company's portion. Yet when it comes down to the doctor whose HMO contract you end up seeing gets $160 a year out of this. Nice tidy difference in there.

Medicare/Medicaid fraud is so huge in the L.A. region for a population of about 11 million there are less then 30 hospitals that take full ER services. So in fact every single day people are dying because they can't get into a nearby ER no matter IF they even have insurance. If someone presents a Medicaid card the hospital has NO RIGHTS to ask for any ID, the cards have no photographs. It is against the Federal Law now for any physician to refuse a patient who claims they have pain, they have to treat the pain, typically a prescription is what is sought. If you want to go to an ER the very best day and time to go is during the Super-bowl Sunday, people don't get sick if something they want to see is on the tube.

Sorry I'm ranting its just so painful to watch so many over worked physicians, nurses, EMT, Nursing home workers all knock themselves out every day to have yet another 'press release' defame them all. We in this country have LOTS to worry about, anyone with self preservation is NOT going into the medical field because there is no financial future to make a decent living. Los Angeles dock workers make more then any family physician no wonder the field is failing...

Crawling back under my rock...
