I get the email update - Dianne Feinstein is only accepting 'drive by and drop off' visits to her office.

UH. Thanks. I'll mail it, then. Pay parking for this? In Westwood? NAH.

Maybe I'll fax it. Today is not the day. Tomorrow doesn't look much better. BUSY MUCH YES.

Someone mentioned what bugs them this morning - and I had to concurr.

What the eff are you doing using a photo of your kid(s) as your profile picture on Facebook/Twitter/What Have You?

Uh, creepy. Like - trophy, much? LOOK I HAZ SPAWNED. And if you won't let the world see you, is showing them your minor children instead really a Great Idea?

Extra credit creepy - I've got a friend on Facebook that is older than me using her newborn grandkid's photo. NEWBORNS AREN'T CUTE. No, not even yours.

Battery Charger Spaghetti. Set up a power strip and plug all the chargers in. Straighten out the cords. Come back in 24 hours and TRY to find the one plug you need and tip the whole unholy mess over because it looks like every cord has been tied to a dog and taken for a walk around the planet. And then pointed toward one tree for relief. WTF.

In other news, on my way home. Thank God for coffee.

What do you think of people who do a photo with their kid (like me)?

Um, so if you drove by, would she run along side your car? Because that would be rather funny.

I don't really care much for Feinstein, especially since she's been known to reply to our letters that her opinion is more important than that of the constituents she represents. Don't be surprised if she disagrees with anything you have to say.

If I may, I think maybe you should consider talking to Senator Boxer instead. Boxer is a lot more compassionate, and in my mind, a lot less in the hands of corporate lobbyists.

As for the kid photos in peoples FB profiles, it's not as bad as those who post profile pix of pregnancy ultrasounds. To me, that just screams TMI, yet it's the rage with a lot of 'expectant' folks. Would it be better if the people posting baby pix were posting pix with them and the baby? I have a friend who just had a daughter two weeks ago, and the pic of him holding his daughter is just sweet, imo.

I think Gaiman and Pratchett said it best when they said that all newborns look like Winston Churchill.

Still, what you're doing is commendable.

Heh, I just asked the same question! Great minds think alike.

Btw, your icon is sweet.

For spaghetti wires... Tie a different colored twist tie to each one on both ends. Organization stores also sell write on tags...

Come to think of it.. Get some twist ties from the supermarket when you go grocery shopping and ...not clear Scotch tape, the cream colored kind. Use that to make a tag you can write on and stick on the twist tie.

And yes, kiddy pictures as your avatar is creepy.

Kid pictures are when you are feeling old, fat, and not cute. So you pass on to the next generation. And every mother knows that her kid is in fact the cutest. I believe dads feel the same way, although in my group, a new server rack holds the same status as child...so....

It's all very logical.

My Facebook profile has a photo of me wearing my child on my back. No, she's not my trophy. No, it's not "LOOK I HAZ SPAWNED". It is, plain and simply, "Look, this is a glimpse of my life in one picture meant to say a thousand words." And, incidentally, I have most of the privacy filters set on my profile so no one can see me or my photos, including my profile photo, except for friends.

I can still see you. But - IMHO? You are not your kid - and this is about you. Not about your entire family.

I am curious, though.. how is that different than any of the myriad other possible pictures people use which show them involved in something they enjoy doing/being a part of/etc?

Would it be equally bad to post a picture of yourself mountain biking (you are not your bike) or that picture from when you were building a house for Habitat for Humanity (you are not your charitable cause)? Is it unacceptable to have any profile picture that shows anything other than just your face? Or is it somehow different because the thing the person cares about happens to be their child (and if so, what makes that one case different)?

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with your position (I'm not sure I have a position on the matter), but these questions just sorta came to mind as being interesting..

I do agree about using pictures of kids by themselves, though. Actually I kinda think using a picture of anybody (kid or not) who isn't you as your profile picture is in really bad taste.
