To Whom It May Concern:

We watched a lot of children’s programming on DISH over the weekend, as you might imagine. We have a four year old who loves the shows on Disney and Nickelodeon and being out of school during really hot weather made watching more of your programming very appealing.

It would seem some political advertisers wanted to catch me watching television with my child. Groups that wanted to scare me with lies. Groups that had no business advertising during children’s programming.

For the record, it was a group claiming health care reform was nothing less than socialism and that the Democratic Party was only pushing for it so they ‘would have more control over my life.’

Also, for the record – I’m not a Democrat. I found it insulting to my intelligence.

I’m also VERY unhappy to see this kind of ad during children’s programming.

If I see anything like it again, I will be contacting the Public Utilities Commission and filing a complaint.

Sincerely,

--

Yeah, me.

Two phone calls and an online chat with DISH already this morning.

And people are concerned (falsely so) about the President trying to indoctrinate our kids? You should totally go to the local news with this.

From facepalm to words, those were pretty much my thoughts on this too.

Auugh. The mental disconnect and gymnastics that people pull over healthcare reform boggle me.

Good for you!

I wonder how much influence Focus on the Family and the rest of them have on EchoStar...

I sure hope you're following up with the actual cable channels the commercials were on as well.

No sense stopping with DISH. They only aired the content that the providers gave them.

Not necessarily so. All cable and satellite providers insert commercial spots over some of the providers' spots. You can tell because frequently the insert button gets pressed a hair early or late, chopping off or revealing part of the spot that would have been there otherwise.

The place to complain is the Federal Communication Commission... They handle TV and Cable policy and set the rules. FCC.... yes, you should let the progressive web sites know of this... Move On ....Huffington Post.... Daily Kos...Our Future.org

I would except for one small problem. *I* don't have the information on the group advertising. I know DISH has that information, hence my letter to them regarding the policy - and if I see it again-related action. (I have a four year old who really REALLY hates commercials - you can guess the rest.)

Also - the FCC can't help me. No, really. This is a satellite/cable issue - and unless I'm picking this up via rabbit ears, it's NOT the public airwaves, and not covered by the FCC. The PUC now - that's different. (Thanks, Reagan.) Satellite and cable services are responsible only to the owners of their linkage (cable and satellite links) for content as they own the transmission method.

This was Disney and Nickelodeon. The turtle can't help us.

yes, this I know, but maybe they don't know that DISH did this during this type of programming.

Sorry to inform you that satellite sservices are not franchised, thus are not covered by the PUC. The PUC being a state agency can regulate franchise utiities, such as cable companies, but satellite services are not under their regulation. I've been dealing with the FCC on these matters as a ham radio operator and as an advocate for internet neutrality... and this is the FCC issue...it is interstate in nature.

I know you'll disagree but I was just reading about FCC actions on another site.

You let me know if you get anywhere. So far, anything related to telecom of any stripe, including my internet service?

PUC. Nobody else cares or has to.

This is probably the right wing retaliation on Obama's address to school children. I'm sorry that people are so small minded.

I know I watch too much Disney channel for an adult who does not have children, however my local cable access does not show any local or paid for commercials on the actual Disney Channel (Perhaps you mean Disney XD or Toon Disney?, then that'd make sense). Like, not even commercials for products featuring Disney characters, just plain ads for their other shows and movies that air on Disney XD or regular channel. Nickelodian does show regular commercials and has commercial space that can be bought.
