BTW - when you don't know the song, and you can't hear the music...DDR sucks. Also, I already have over 3000 tickets stored...and the claw machine was nearly empty and I still hit two stuffies out of three tries. I truly enjoy Dave & Busters too much for my own good.

However.

I've re-discovered something so automatic and primal yesterday, it's going to require me to consciously refrain from violence in the future.

The cat clawed Jim yesterday. No, we're not talking about a little scratch or two across the back of the hand, an inadventant poke in the shoulder (which we both carry scarring from) - no this was something completely out of character and frightening.

She clawed him as he was trying to pick her up - there are three deep groves from anacubic to wrist on the right arm. If we hadn't clipped her claws the day before, she'd have laid that arm wide open with both back sets.

Why? The best we can come up with is that she smelled two toddlers who had just left...and Jim spooked her. I've been warning him to put her down when she's less than receptive, but this was completely insane. It was over in an instant...and it hurt too much to scream, and he was too shocked to move. Once I had grabbed the cat to make sure something else wasn't amiss (a wrenched collar, a broken tail...something...anything), we just stood there and watched him bleed.

And I had the cat by the scruff of the neck. Oops.

And likely didn't help much by tossing her to the couch from that position. Double oops.

And swatted her off Jim when something woke me from a dead sleep this morning and I thought she was going to bite him.

Cat is less than 7 lbs. Jim is 6'4" and oh so many more than that pounds.

And Jim was indignant and defensive of his kitty. Well, yeah. All I remember is rage. How was I ever going to trust that animal again? What if she had done that to a small child or a visitor? How could I defend the cat? How could I justify it?

I remember a conversation [livejournal.com profile] silverkun and I had once. How close do you let your One get?

If you think of the seven-fold fence as an analogy, he said he allowed folks specific access...but nobody got behind wall one. No one. Ever.

Likely that's why I've had few really significant relationships...and never broken off with anyone once I began that level with them. Because this is where we differ.

Jim lives behind wall one with me.

And I have discovered just how protective I am. *scratches head*

Well, the cat's fine. Like nothing happened. Jim's arm is wrapped in a dressing from elbow to wrist for tonight - cat scratches fester under the best conditions, and these are long and deep.

And I'm going to have to watch it.

In other news, Marukai is nucking futz the last weekend before New Years, but the buys are awesome. Also, we have four solid choices for house hunting Monday...and the agent called this evening to let us know that another offer may have come in on the house.

I'm going to go give my hair a hot oil treatment, and myself a facial.

More, as it develops.
