The 47-year-old initially raced past an unmarked police car in heavy rain at 160 km/h (100mph) before weaving close to other cars and the road's kerb.

The serial offender clocked up further offences for speeding, driving on the hard shoulder, running a set of red lights and failing to stop for police.

When finally pulled over by St Gallen police, he failed a drugs test.

I know the stretch of road well, I've driven it myself. There's little reason to be crazy about getting through it, to be honest.

But when they're talking jail, they're not kidding. Drive drunk and get caught doing it? You won't ever drive again - ever. Kill or injure someone driving drunk and you go to jail - and over there, you just disappear in jail. Period, full stop.

The story doesn't mention whether or not he actually had a license to drive to begin with - I think I'd make that bar bet that he didn't, and win the beer.

What really gets me is the last line of the article:

"I can't remember a case this serious," a police spokeswoman told the BBC of Sunday's infringement spree. "It's remarkable."

I'd bet that a driving incident at least that serious occurs every week or so somewhere in the US..

Yup, that would be Switzerland - it's a lot like Japan, in which there is a strong cultural pressure to conform to established law, and those that stray from it?

Tend to get firmly pushed back into lockstep with everyone else. If you're willing to do that?

Dude. I saw some of the wackiest summer clothes on men there I ever did see.

But they paid their taxes on time, didn't make noise after 10:30 PM and didn't mow their laws on Sunday.

It's too bad we don't have a similar outlook here. Things would be a lot different, that's for sure.

I nearly got hit today by someone on this level of dumb.

I'm sitting at a red light. There's already a bad sign- the guy behind me is honking. Gets worse when the guy in front of me turns against a red light.

Light goes green, I turn left onto the highway. I've got jerkass behind me so I hit the gas pretty hard, I'm accelerating about as fast I I trust my car to accelerate. I'm at about 50mph and halfway up the ramp, when jerkass PASSES ME ON THE RIGHT DOING AT LEAST 70. Then cuts straight across to the far left taking gaps I wouldn't take a motorcycle through. No hanging out in a lane to make sure its safe to go to the next, he just kept going. And traffic was a little to the high side of moderate. It wasn't an empty road where such a stunt might approach safe, this was a situation where if he lost a tire doing this, he was taking out at least two other cars and possibly a semi. Oh, hear about the tanker a few years ago that blew up on I-95 and destroyed a bridge? This is exactly where this went on.

Jerkass reaches out the window as he passes to give me the finger.

Oh, during the same turn, someone in the right lane, which is straight or turn into the road beside the ramp, cuts across me to get on the ramp before me. So much stupid illegal unsafe crap I dealt with in just one turn. I don't know if I hope they were just stupid, or if they were good drivers otherwise who happened to be drunk at the time. One of the two speaks better of humanity, I'm just not sure which.
