Eye appointment this morning? Outside of parking in the wrong place the first try, nearly painless.

Trying to replace the glasses afterward? Not so much.

Kaiser has a lovely benefit - if you're six years old. If you need more than single-vision lenses in tortieshell frames? It smarts. Not as much as it did back at WonderDoc's office on VSP, but it smarts. Enough that I don't have it in my back pocket.

So I have to wait. Probably more than one pay period.

The good news? That allowance will be a nice pair of sunglasses - first pair in nearly twenty years.

In about five weeks. In the meantime? I have what I had yesterday. And it was good enough then.

Have you ever checked out mail order glasses (like Zenni optical). Much cheaper. Weairng a pair (single vision) from them now.

I've thought of going that route, but I'd like to know where my glasses are being made...and from Kaiser? I'm pretty sure they're being made in a correctional facility somewhere by convict labor (yes, they do that), but at least they're being done in the US.

VisionCrafters and their ilk? In front of you. By people who were trained in correctional facilities. ^^

The online guys? Who knows and under what conditions? You got me.

It's a little much to expect something from Otto in his lab in the Alps, but the one you know vs. the one you don't - and I know better on cost. Somewhere, someone is getting the shaft when the costs drop that much.

I am so totally with you. Obviously, nobody over the age of 45 works for these vision plans. [sarcasm] And of course, once you're 45 you are so totally old that you need to step aside from Life anyway and let the Millennials rule. [/sarcasm]

I mean, Ben Franklin invented bifocals for a REASON. Are we supposed to spend the rest of our days whipping one pair of single-vision glasses off our faces and putting another pair on?

That's why they call it an 'allowance' instead of 'one pair of glasses.'

The ones I have on my face right now were a grand. By themselves and they SUCK. With discounts, with coverage.

This is better - but. I need to stop spending money on gumballs, I guess.

It really burns my butt that the things one needs the most cost the most. The ones I'm wearing now? They were got the day after my hernia surgery, and I had to pay out of pocket since none of the Medicaid approved frames fit my face. (I take a 125 mm temple, m'kay? And the frame is still not quite right. Had to pay for the progressives myself. These glasses suck, as they were the cheapest in that size range and were still $125 frames. What force decided my glasses should break the evening after I had surgery, I don't know. But I think that might have affected my visual acuity the next day so that it is not so great now that I'm long since healed.

But yeah, for some reason vision plans are great for people with kids, same as dental plans. For adults, not so much. And things that are a need, like glasses, are expensive in this capitalistic health care system we have.

Eh. Today, it's a temporary issue. For me. And passing annoying. Thankfully, not much more than that.
