One too many power-ons and the television just said screw it and went toes up. I'd been wondering how much longer it would go (holding out on not buying anything HD because of the domino effect it would have) - and lo and behold, today was the day I found out. Wonder no longer.

Now, the reason for all the extra power ons is another matter - but I was at work, the boys were at home and there were clothes involved (or the lack of them) and the television had been turned off to deal with it. I think kid just got the luck of the draw - and both of them got a teaching moment.

Me, I got to go home and help pick out and install the new television. Then go have a lovely lunch with my boys eating noodles and listen to my kid talk to his bowl of udon because it tasted so good.

This is where I mention how incredibly fortunate I am. I have the resources to make this a mild to moderate distraction - not have to rend my garments and wail to the sky.

And do without television services in the living room.

As it stands, we have a lovely new 32" HD set that will likely only look better once the signal is upgraded. Even with these terrible glasses I can tell the picture is better.

This old set was one I bought new right after Cliff passed - and it makes me sad in places because it's another reminder of just how much time has sped by since then. Gosh, that was fast - and nearly effortless. If it were people, it would be heading for junior high school.

Right now, I need to put it someplace while I find where to take it to be recycled.

That was my Friday. MUCH better than most of the other ones I know of right now.

I have been dodging HDTV for a while now. Just don't want to pay extra limbs to the cable co. for the HD channels. One arm and one leg is enough, thank you very much.

Also, I can't bear to bring my little Quasar B&W TV to the recycling center, even though it stopped displaying a picture long before analog TV was shut off. It was my big gift on the last Christmas my Dad was alive, and I'm pretty sure I know which parent picked THAT present out.

I'm so glad that everyone's okay - I saw the earlier post and hadn't updated to see more current posts... (yeah, I'm more than 2 hours behind LJ, due to WoW)

Hugs to the lot of you.

Our DVR in the living room seems to have given up the ghost yesterday as well. Probably from all the Pokemon stored on it. Which, of course, led the TV in the bedroom to get all fuzzy at the same time. We can't tell if they're related or not, hopefully the service call tomorrow will give us the answer. That TV, at a grand total of 26", was what our entire SF club in Virgina huddled around to watch our first show, Encounter at Farpoint. Yes, for five whole minutes, we were the only ones who had a really cool TV.

We got the HD TV when we moved because the old TV did not do well after that. We may be the only people on earth with a 40 inch HD TV hoooked to an antenna. Cable is highway robbery. We still have all the other same VCR and DVD stuff and it works just fine. There's hope.
