kyburgIt looks like Jim is going to have to come get me again - the truck is still in the shop.
But...*shakes head*...when I pick it up, it'll be $700. Oh well. It needed it. It could have been $1300, but I said I'd do the brakes, the radiator flush and the filters myself. Yup. That's what it costs in Manhattan Beach for that stuff.

BTW, Green Tea Mousse Pocky rocks the house. *Have* to get more.
Scuttlebutt says they fed Kobe some naaasty cheesecake last night. Kid has been puking his guts ever since. Those Sacto fans are cold. *laughs* Yeah...right.

cadhla talking about books the other day - got me to thinking as well. And ordering. And...stuff. Well, okay - here is an abbreviated list of books I remember being all time favorites...only the first one from when I was over 21. The rest are admittedly the juvenile books (what, a world without Harry Potter?!) I had to read when there was no Nintendo, no internet, no Harry Potter and no Buffy. Let alone Goosebumps (ugh).
Yes, the links will take you to Amazon.com. They'll have more complete information and descriptions...and frankly, if you like the book and it intrigues you, please get it. You'll get something you'll love...and I get more books. I'm Asian that way. ^^
War for the Oaks. Wow. I notice the cover has changed. It used to have a wonderful colored-pencil art cover. Emma Boll should write two dozen books like this one, it's so good. Concrete descriptions with a keen ear for dialog...entirely believable without getting cutesy. If I could only have one book - let me have this one.
But there were days of Scholastic Book Club...and in those days, Little Witch was my favorite book. It's a very classic tale of changelings and witches and children who rescue their parents, but in this case, I could easily imagine it happening to one of those terribly beautiful classmates who lived in the strange house down the street. Also in that category was Thursday's Child, another independent little snot of a kid who basically told the Authority of the day to piss off. Loved it. Loved any story that had plucky people like me taking it on the road.
The Saturdays, Rilla of Ingleside and A Little Princess are books written for children and deal with both WWI and WWII. You should also have The Secret Garden -- no children's library would be complete without it.
The Forbidden Tower, Splinter of the Mind's Eye and Spock, Messiah! were books I read and re-read as an adolescent. My Star Trek Log books I kept with me all the time and wore out. And the Star Trek novels...gawd. No fan fiction. No Next Gen. Can you imagine it?

Our Bodies, Ourselves. Of course.

Date: 2002-05-20 09:17 pm (UTC)By the way, if you like Harry Potter, check out The Chrestomanci Novels by Dianne Wynn Jones. Fantastic stuff. Written waaay before Harry Potter, and in a manner that is darker and less for children. The Lives of Christopher Chant is particularly good.
