Advent 2011, Day Two -

Got one of these?

Soak the label off that sucker. You've got someone on your list who needs a backup for dinner someday this next year.
This is what you do.
You take an equal amount of 7 different types of beans - suggestions run from pintos to anazazi, limas to lentils. Get colorful. Get creative. Open up a recipe for 7-bean soup and get inspired.
Then fill the jar, screw the lid back on it and put either a square of newspaper or brown paper bag over the top and tie it on with some twice. Build either a label or a tag that reads:
EMERGENCY FOOD SUPPLY
In case of extreme lack of anything else to eat in 2012/2013 - take the contents of this jar and...
(Put your favorite 7-bean soup recipe here.)
You can fill it to the brim with one kind of bean, if you wish - me, I like the layers.
The idea is to make this look rustic AND groomed - not fancy like some jar of cookie mix. This is dinner, dammit. Serious, serious dinner.
Have fun - and see you tomorrow!

Date: 2011-12-03 01:59 am (UTC)(I also do a homemade cocoa mix, using dry milk, using a recipe that a friend who was on welfare at the time gave me. For that one, you tie a couple/few candy canes around the jar. This isn't to replace something that can stave off hunger, but it is a comfort thing, y'know?)
