No, this war isn't going to create anti-American setiments.

No, this war isn't going to make people mad. It's not like we STARTED THIS, anyway.

..

No, we don't have the corner on hatred. They can hate back, you know.

Okay, gallows humor, you can kick in now. Anytime.

Gah. The fact it's so clear, legible and damn tidy bothers me the most.

But it still could have been done with one person with an axe to grind. Just...remember that.

I have no intention of giving in to prejudice. I was raised better than that.

Oh, puh-leez. Anyone who wants to hate will find any excuse whatsoever to hate. Our retaliation against Iraq may have conflagrated their hatred of us, but it didn't cause it.

*blink blink*

You're serious.

That's like saying a lit match is the same as an unlit one, based on potential. If they "hated" us before, why?

What I'm saying is that, to the people doing the hating, it doesn't matter to *them* whether they hate America or Grilled Cheese Sandwiches. They'll hate someone regardless of all reason and ration.

Southerners hate blacks. French hate Americans. Hispanics hate Jews. They're all generic stereotypes of people hating other people, and normally for no good reason. It happens. It's irrational. As it's irrational, there's no rational way to stop it, short of whacking people upside the head with a Clue-by-Four™ until the're no longer able to coherently process hatred - or, for that matter, anything else.

Maybe this will make you feel better, as it does me. Last week, NPR was interviewing a protestor in France. The protestor was asked what he thought of Americans. His calm response was, "Americans are not the problem. George Bush is the problem." If I could have reached through my radio and half-way across the world to hug the guy, I would have.

Why is it that your first impulse on seeing this is to yell at AMERICA? Shouldn't the people who DID it bear blame??

I don't care how angry people are about the war. This sort of thing is unjustified.

No, it's not.

But I can't be surprised it happened, either. Stuff like this is going to happen. I've seen it before. And we did what we did knowing that.

It is incredibly, fucking sad. And I sure as hell hope it's been removed by now.
